I need your help. There is a situation in Beeville that is out of control and needs immediate attention.
There is an animal 'sHELLter' in Beeville, Texas. These animals have no shade from the hot, hot South Texas sun, many are chained, in violation of Texas' chaining laws, many of the animals are sick and in need of veterinary care, many have heartworm and are not being treated... many need to be humanely euthanized to stop their suffering. I witnessed this with my own eyes, I could see the pain and sadness in their eyes. The cats are housed in an un-air conditioned room, with a child's wading pool as their litter box, the pool is almost overflowing with feces and urine clumps. All the cats I saw were also sick, with mange, ringworm, or worse... The puppies are kept in cages made of chicken wire and are listless and sick. Many of the water bowls were so full of algae it is obvious they haven't been refreshed in quite some time. The dogs are chained to old tractors, stakes in the ground, trees.
The yard is overgrown with the grass coming up to mid-calf, many of these animals are covered in ticks. At least two dogs are so emaciated you can see every bone in their bodies, one has heartworm and is dying a slow, painful death.
PETA is actively working with city and county officials in Beeville and have been for about a month. They composed a lengthy letter and sent it to every official in Bee County. The city manager and sheriff promised action, but to date they've done nothing but drag their feet and deny what can clearly be seen in the photos I took over a month ago. I spent a little over an hour talking with the shelter manager/owner. There are no volunteers, there is no money for medical treatment. These dogs are exposed to the elements, many are kept four or five to a small to medium sized dog run. There are at least 50 animals, probably more that need our help.
