Sounds Like
Take a dash of melodic rock, a sprinkle of punkpop, a pinch of hard-hitting guitar solos, and a splash of jalapeno-infused indie musings. MMM Mmm, eat it up.
Dubbed One of the next up and coming bands by Billboard Magazine, the Thornbirds debut album, "All the Same", has been heralded with widespread critical acclaim and a growing nationwide fanbase. The album has been featured on MTV and Howard Stern, and has received extensive airplay on alternative and active rock stations, including Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles and KPRI, San Diegos Authentic Rock. The Thornbirds were a part of the Vans Warped Tour during Summer '05, playing songs from their yet unnamed second album.
Guitarist Russ Parrish and drummer Darren Leader formed the group while playing in some of the most popular cover bands in the United States (Metal Skool, The Atomic Punks, Boogie Knights, and Video Star). Newcomer, Jeff Duncan, who replaced Jimmy Oleson on guitar, is a former member of rock-metal supergroups Odin, Armoured Saint, and DC4. Rounding out the group is bassist Dean Cameron, whose day job includes acting credits in over 20 movies as well as regular roles on several television shows.
One of the Thornbirds greatest talents is their ability to attract an incredibly diverse audience: straight up rockers, hard-core punks, and indie scensters can all be found at the groups concerts. As noted by US Magazine, These guys definitely know how to put on a show. Even with Avril Lavigne and Blink 182 in the audience, no one took their eyes and ears off these Birds. Imagine the driving, contagiously energetic rhythms of the Foo Fighters coupled with the bombast of Enuff ZNuff with an added poppy-punk vibe, and you can get some feeling for the melodic swagger that the band proudly displays.
Thanks for the request Thornbirds. I enjoyed checking out your music and page. Wishing you much continued success, good health and lot's of happiness. Jeff in South Carolina

What's going on as far as the Thornbirds? Haven't seen any activity in a while! I know the whole Steel Panther thing must be making things quite busy right now (and I'm hoping you guys make a full length record for that!), but what's the status of the second Thornbirds album?
Hope you and the family are doing well. I'm going to keep my eye on this Steel Panther business.
Still to this day! I do not say this lightly. The song "Thought You Should Know" is one of the most poweful and poignant songs these ears have heard.Don't know why, but I hear Elvis Costello doing this one! Really great work and important in this day of fluff and stuff radio crap! Russ you are the man!!!!!
