They call themselves The Three Wisemen…
In their now famous theme song “We Three Wisemen” they humbly proclaim, “we’re not so wise at all”, and they certainly know this to be true. But what The Three Wisemen are (if not wise) is three very talented musical performers who come together each holiday season for a musically brilliant, laugh packed and spiritually uplifting Christmas concert series.
The Three Wisemen are Timothy James Meaney, Brett Williams and Jon Blackstone. Their concerts are comprised of traditional Christmas songs, along with original material, all performed with acoustic guitars and three-part vocal harmonies. These three men share a common love of music (not to mention a rather twisted sense of humor), which makes for a very fun filled show. While they find it difficult to describe what they do, the press has described them as "Crosby, Stills and Nash meet The Rat Pack". In December of 2006, 3WM (as they are commonly known) will embark on their 10th annual concert tour together, and as Brett Williams has been recently quoted, "We’re a year better than we were a year ago about this time!” Words of wisdom indeed!
Besides their work with 3WM, the boys have all enjoyed excruciatingly successful careers as solo performers.
Timothy James Meaney has been involved in music ministry since the late ‘80s, and is well known as the most sought after Christian concert performer in the greater Seattle area. In the early ‘80s, Tim formed his own record label Wiseman Music. From 1989 to 1993 he produced three excellent CDs of original material and began touring the Northwest with his unique brand of fun and spiritually encouraging concerts. In 1994 Tim recorded his fourth album “Life Again” (produced by fellow 3WM member Jon Blackstone) which featured the mega hits “Godly Man” and “Here Am I”. In 1995, Tim’s years of hard work paid off and he was offered a national recording contract, which provided him the opportunity to expand his ministry and also made his wonderful songs, “Heavens Love” and “The Big Chair” (co-written with Brett Williams) massive hits on the national charts. This worldwide exposure also afforded Tim the chance to once again work with world renowned producer Jon Blackstone, as well two of Tim’s biggest heroes in the faith, Phil Keaggy and Randy Stonehill. In 1996 Tim toured the world with Phil Keaggy, and his place in Christian music history was forever etched in stone. In January of 2007, Tim will record his thirteenth project entitled "Worship Vol. 2". Meaney’s albums have produced radio singles for national radio stations over the last seventeen years. The latest single released off Meaney’s “Flyaway” CD is "Flyaway" and "Great Day".
Brett Williams began his career in Christian music in the early ‘90s when music industry big wigs from Nashville were fortunate enough to catch Brett and his band In Reach performing a stunning live show before a raving audience at the Hollywood Bowl. Brett and the band were signed on the spot, and soon the whole world was to discover the amazing singing, songwriting talents of this brilliant artist. Brett released two albums through Star Song records in Nashville, and then decided to trust his career to the hands of two of his best friends, Timothy James Meaney and Jon Blackstone who were forming a national record label of their own. Brett’s third studio album “Curio” was produced by Jon and was met with overwhelming critical and commercial success. He then recorded a fourth album with Absolute Records, which was embellished by the world-class talents of former Prince and The Revolution band member Dez Dickerson (he’s the guy that wore the cool red headband in Prince’s first big video hit “1999”). Shortly thereafter, Brett found that worldwide success had become too much to handle. It was then that he accepted a position as worship pastor at Calvary Chapel Mountlake Terrace in Seattle. He has since recorded two worship albums, and his songs “I Am Amazed” and “There’s The Cross” among others, have become staple worship tunes in churches around the world. Brett's newest project "Hideaway" can be found on his website brettwilliamsmusic.com.
Jon Blackstone began his musical adventures by performing with various rock bands throughout the ‘80s. Not yet a Christian, Jon toured the world playing to crowds of people who “seemed lost and in need of God”. Indeed, Jon found his own faith in Jesus Christ in 1988, and immediately left a lucrative career as a rock star to begin a spiritually rich career as a Christian recording artist and producer. It was at this time that Jon met Timothy James Meaney, and the two began a long and fruitful friendship and musical relationship. In 1990, Jon moved to Nashville to pursue a recording contract. While there, he worked with many of the music industries biggest names including Phil Keaggy and Margaret Becker (with whom he co-wrote the radio hit “Revival”. In 1994, Jon released his long awaited first album titled “Not Dressed For The Occasion” which featured an amazing collection of original songs performed by a dazzling array of Nashville talents (including Nigel Olsson and Dee Murray, both members of The Elton John Band circa 1970-1985). However, Jon quickly grew weary of his fame and fortune and longed for the simpler (and poorer) life back home in Seattle (not to mention he missed his friend Timothy James Meaney quite painfully). In 1995, Jon moved back home and began working on a series of projects with Tim, and found himself to be in high demand as a solo artist in the Northwest. It was shortly thereafter that Tim and Jon met with Brett Williams and signed him to a recording contract. It was during these power meetings that they realized that together they might just change the world. It was then that these three highly successful solo artists, combined to create 3WM.
And the rest (as they say) is history…
In their ten years together, the lads have managed to create quite a stir and this Christmas is no exception. This December 2006 will provide music fans around the world another special opportunity to catch The Three Wisemen in concert.
You should too! You be glad you did – and sorry if you don’t!
