The Thugz? What kind of a name is that? Well the band was originally a blues band playing around Sonoma county. Then something happened to us while we were the regular band at the fondly remembered Blue Heron in Duncans Mills. Maybe there was something in the water. Anyway, the band began to play lots of Grateful Dead songs and other music of that ilk.We tried to use other names like "the Space Miners" and "The Happy Flower People" but our growing fan base would have none of that. So we changed the s to a z and forged on with our name as a kind of political statement and protest against commercial, mainstream music formulas. (some folks prefer the acronym "Tribal Hippie Underground Zone"). Hey, we are into the music and helping people have a good time. We are not candidates for American Idol or People magazine. Our hope is to at least attempt to create art with our originals and improvisations. Even though the ideals of the 60's have been squashed and subjugated by an evil empire we feel that those values of peace and love are needed even more these days. Are you one of the Thugz too? These days we are the house band at the legendary Pink Elephant in Monte Rio. Please come by and say "high"!
