Way back in 1989, four young, but experienced streetwise muzo’s from diverse musical backgrounds started a band…
With a melting pot of influences – The Cult, The Cure, The Mission, U2, The Police, Queen, Ozzy Osborne, Rush, The Smiths, Japan, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd – vocalist Ernest Milsom, drummer Andy Green, bassist Nelson Barbosa and guitarist Barry Klopper set out to create a unique sound and an original live repertoire that was to go on and rock the foundations of Cape Town’s then thriving live music scene.
Fuelled by a passion for rock music, a mutual chemistry and Jack Daniels [although not necessarily in that order], in true rock ‘n roll style, they played their first gig less than a month after meeting for the first Time. Encouraged by immediately winning the battle of the bands competition, they went on to build a dedicated following and a career which sadly lasted less than two warped-speed years.
Performing regularly at large national rock concerts and headlining club dates, a residency at the legendary Brass Bell in Kalk Bay, and several questionable and character-building forays into the khaki-clad depths of the rural countryside, this group of misguided musical miscreants carved a memorable niche for themselves.
Many songs were written and played or discarded, and album tracks, music videos, live TV gigs and some bizarre radio interviews were enthusiastically launched upon the unsuspecting public…
And now, 17 years later, they’re back together again for just one more iconic gig in Cape Town, in February 2008.
So, if you were there back in the days, come and gaze in awe and wonder for old times sake. Do you still remember when and where you saw them last? Throw your underwear or shout abuse if you must, [Unfortunately, no headbands, leg-warmers or spandex permitted]. You may, however still buy drinks for the band. If you weren’t around at The Time, you might discover that rock music is more than just alive and well. It’s still kicking.
They’re gonna be recording this gig live and look forward to hearing you there...
