"Whilst attending a recent Tower of Dudes gig I was astounded by the injection of pure energy the band pumped into the arteries of a previously sleepy audience. Clutching my beer bottle for dear sanity I was washed onto the dance-floor by a flood of riotous young barn-dancing hippies and punks! This may sound like a contradiction in terms, but believe me this band is full of them. The scandalous marriage of county with punk, the moody thumping bass-lines bouncing around with beats laid out on wood-block, the romance and antiquity of the accordion and mandolin flirting with the acoustic thrashing and raucously delivered rib-tickling lyrics. These are a bunch of seriously good musicians with a curiously infectious tongue-in-cheek humor.
This Prague based, art-cow-punk band of international misfits have been delighting, terrorizing and inciting half-demented sing-a-longs in the Czech Republic since 2005 when crazed front-man, Johnny Feelings and gorgeous accordion playing dudette, Tarah masu, set sail from Vancouver. In true pied-piperesque fashion it wasn't long before this magnetic pair of Canadians had tunefully attracted a ROCKing team of peculiar characters from different ends of the planet. Hailing from London Town, Steve Cautious brings a solid foundation of old-school funk-punk bass. Don't be fooled by Silver Buckets' typically high-pitched girly Californian whine, under it lies a demonic beast of a hardcore pneumatic drummer, daring enough to experiment with xylophone and woodblock. The quirky quintet is completed by Pro French Basketball hero Tony Parker who, when not on the court, enjoys nothing more than to "bust a little bluegrass mando and banjo with these crazy kids!"
The ToD have been classified as Art Rock Anti-Intellectual, Anti-Folk, Cowpunk, folkpunk and Cubicjazzrock! They have benn likened to stellar bands such as 16 Horsepower, Neutral Milk Hotel, Jonathon Richmond and Wolf Parade. If you ask me OR one of the frenzied, chanting, dancing, sweating revelers at a ToD show we'll all tell you… you gotta see them and experience this madness for yourselves!" THE TOWER OF DUDES is a country-folk-punk project in Prague with the members who are foreigners from Canada, UK, and USA settled in Prague. Try to imagine an after midnight acoustic jam of Wolf Parade with members from 16 Horsepower and Neutral Milk Hotel from the old day - you get the idea.
