Dub Reggae --the down beat, more instrumental side of Reggae music-- has been almost exclusively kept within circles of DJs spinning tracks for “Dub Night” at some hip, underground club. Enter the Tropics, a premier live dub reggae band, performing originals and adaptations of classic reggae tunes in clubs and outdoor venues throughout the Midwest region. For the past 3 years, the Tropics have built a reputation as one of the only bands of its kind, and one which pushes and develops the genre of dub beyond the limits of vinyl. Originally a side project of Recycled Future, co-founders Erik "ebot" Radloff (drums, vocals) and Todd Richards (bass, vocals) are joined by Rick Hake (f/i) on synths and space noises, and a cast of other talented Milwaukee & Midwest-based musicians.
The Tropics is a drum & bass reggae band at its heart with vocal arrangements, keyboards, percussion, space sounds, and a live on-stage P.A. mix to embellish the groove and capture the production quality of their studio work. The hard driving beat keeps the people dancing and moving, and the spatial soundscapes keeps them listening and engaged.
Imagine The Wailers meets Forbidden Planet. Dub in space.
What makes The Tropics so unique and distinct is the combination of live reggae and studio quality on-stage mixing. The Tropics have just released their first studio record, Slices & Slices, with an A-Team of guest stars, receiving praise from critics and fans alike. tropicsdub@gmail.com GET THE LATEST CD "SLICES & SLICES" EXCLUSIVELY AT CDBABY.COM!!!
