FILM REVIEW from the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE:
'HIGHLY RECOMMENDED'
"An extraordinarily engaging, well-written and creatively filmed romantic comedy comprised of four stories set in hotel rooms on the same floor... Rhee's feature debut is in some ways a textbook for how to make a great low-budget feature: Start with a really good, tightly written script, hire some terrific, trained, hungry actors and shoot it economically on small interiors. For an audience, it's a winning combination." -G. Allen Johnson, THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
THE TROUBLE WITH ROMANCE
Director Gene Rhee follows up his award-winning, hilarious THE QUEST FOR LENGTH (Sundance ’02) with a much different, equally provocative feature film. Shot in only 15 days with a production budget of only $150K, THE TROUBLE WITH ROMANCE is an atypical comedy about sex and relationships presenting a quartet of vignettes on a disparate group of Angelenos exploring the challenges and heartaches that come with falling and staying in love. Infusing his film with a steady visual flair, director Gene Rhee has a lot to say about romance, breaking up, moving on and simply trying to recognize when you’ve found the ONE. With crisp pacing and terrific performances, Rhee’s feature debut is heart-breaking in its sincerity and emotion. The film smartly complicates its initial set-ups with fresh twists and turns, each of which reveal more and more about the nature of love, and the ever-changing desires of the heart.
The film was picked up by WARNER BROS. for distribution after being an audience favorite on the film festival circuit for over a year.A Girls’ Club Entertainment & Sweet Violet Films Production
