The Trouble with Virginia is Gin Herrick and Susie Scherf - two accomplished singer-songwriters who come together to create an innovative blend of folk, blues, roots and rock, combining off-beat melodies and introspective undertones in honest, well-crafted songs. Gin is a conservatorium trained vocalist and musician, nominated in 2006 for a Music Oz Award in the category of Blues. Her dirty chords and gritty vocals tell stories of individual experiences - loss, love, anger and healthy disillusionment with the status quo. For Gin, songwriting is a process of catharcism and a place to explore the broken, often angrier side of expression. Susie Scherf is a self-taught musician, and has been writing songs for 10 years. She is the lead singer of local Sydney folk-rock act Ruby Moon (www.rubymoonrising.com). Her haunting and surreal vocals permeate narratives of universal themes of the human condition laden over rich chords and intricate, uplifting melodies. The contrast of these two songwriters creates an unlikely soundscape - vocally-rich, melodically moving, original, and above all else, sure to stick in your head.
