A huge big thank you to all who showed up at the Band on the wall gig, it means a lot to us. We had a hoot of a time and really appreciate the effort everyone made to get there.
We will put up details over the next couple of days regarding the DVD we had filmed there and how to get hold of some wonderful Cheaters band on the wall t-shits.
2010 anyone?
Many thanks
The Cheaters.
What a night! Ever been to a school reunion some 25 yrs after leaving? Well , that was the kinda feeling I had travelling from Derbyshire to the Cheaters 30th reunion bash. I was full of apprehension, What would it be like? How many would be there?
On arriving there was a healthy amount already in the gig and as the brilliant DJ racked the volume up the audience slowly crept forward anticipating action. Then all of a sudden its "Ladies and gentlemen THE CHEATERS" and there they were.
Talk about roll back the years , "Baby what you want me to do" and "Diplomat" set the foundations but by "Talkin Blues" the sound was spot on and, I tell yer, I have never smiled so much at a gig for years, All the Cheaters faves were there from "Policeman" to "Spirit". Mick was Mick, Coss was Coss, Stuart is and always will be the powerhouse on the drums and Dave was Dave on solid bass. What a night, I could go forever, the crowd rocked , there was a kind of Elderly(it has to be said) mosh pit at the front and "Big Barney" even got up and did his party piece.! And do you want to know how to prove if a band has really still got the Rock and roll credentials? Well its if a young lady gets on stage and takes her top off, and one did. Welcome back THE CHEATERS.
This is your DJ calling...prior to the Cheaters taking the stage at the Band On The wall on December 12th I will be attempting to get everyone in the mood with a selection of 7" vinyl classics. The question is - what to play? Go to my site, check out the list of artists and let me know what you'd like to hear. See you on the night!
Great timesthey were! My mate, Dilly, said to me sometime in 1981 ish"Theres a RnB band on in Staly called the Cheaters, shall we go?" I thought " oh yea another cryin in your beer band" but, luckily, I said yea lets go, cos there was nothin on telly that night. And wow! am I glad I went. We found the pub, The Commericial, and strode in. The first thing I noticed was there was quite a crowd and it was only 8 oclock. The place filled up and the band came on(one set only ,which for pubs was another surprise) and from the first bars of"Lets play Rock n Roll" I was hooked. I was totally transformed into a Cheaters fan that night. They was exciting, they kicked ass, they looked great, they played loud and most importantly they looked the audience in the face and didnt blink. It was no holds barred music. From then on I saw the band at The Grey Horse, Jenks Bar in Blackpool , a couple of Unis, The Lamplight in Chorlton and The Brookfield in Stockport to name a few. They were great times . They released a few records but sadly they didnt really take off although they were played quite a lot on Radio One, I guess really they were a "live band" One thing that is probably not mentioned enough is that Mick wrote some bloody good songs and for me should have got more praise from the press. As a frontman he was the business,as for my musical career he influenced me no end although I dont consider my self any where near as good. And then sometime in the mid 80..s it seems they were gone, the last time I saw Mick and Neil was at Rotters (I think) in Manchester supporting Dr Feelgood as a duo. I somehow lost touch with them after that until now. Thanks for the great times guys and heres looking forward to a great party night at The Band on the Wall! Ian Fawkes Route 66
