Well we charted like a bullet in at 98 in the Pepsi Chart. And now we do what we want when we want with who we want. We've played the festivals, we've toured the country and we've met some crazy folk. A nice little label came in and said if we left Manilla Records they'd look after us properly and to our surprise they have done. We CAN release what we want now, we're not told WHAT to wear and we're certainly NOT told to write more commercial songs.
Innovating punk don't regurgitate it.
WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THE SINGLE:
"There’s an element of the Art Brut to United Kingdom of America’s chosen target and their method of attack doesn’t mean that this single isn’t really fucking funny. And pretty accurate, picking up the most stereotyped but nonetheless true elements of the indie uniform/mentality (“I’ll wear a scarf indoors…”) and parodying them over a spiky, energetic hook with a contagious rhythm, sarcastically bounding bass and a general sense of punky energy and masses of humour. And, like, there’s a tune too!
This is a very funny song which hits its targets dead on, and if you’ve a taste for irreverently humorous punk music you should make sure you hear it, because it will make you giggle like a child" - Drowned in Sound
"A short burst of a single from The United Kingdom of America which comes in, tells you you're a wanker, and then leaves again before you've had time to think of a retort. It works brilliantly as a short, sharp hit of punk energy. A fine, no nonsense, anti-mainstream, cynical piece of punk rock snapped into one minute and forty-five seconds" - Sandman Magazine
"Butter wouldn't melt lyrics conceal a long overdue super-snide sideswipe at the whole indie scene. Clever lyrics just keep bouncing out of this track 'indie-viduality', 'I get my clothes from Oxfam, apart from that top what I got from Topman' and 'look at my hair!' all describe the commercialisation of 'indie' music as the must have fashion accessory of the year. Neat stuff"- Tasty Fanzine
