THE UNCONVENTIONALS were formed in April 2006 when six experienced West End musical performers wanted to create a fresh and original vocal group regardless of age, shape or size - the only criteria being that all six could REALLY sing!
They entered ITV's THE X FACTOR where from over 100,000 applications they made it to the final 12 acts and to the Live Finals alongside Leona Lewis.
They went on to support Westlife on their major arena "Love" tour, and opened for Beverley Knight & Tom Jones at an event in London - in addition to several other live appearances. On TV they also appeared on THIS MORNING, ITN NEWS, GMTV & THE SHARON OSBOURNE SHOW.
Always at odds with the safe, predictable formula of today's music industry - The Uncons have had a "challenging" three years to say the least! But the support of many who loved them on THE X FACTOR and at live appearances since, plus a worldwide internet following have inspired the group to continue. They finally released their debut single 'ABSTRACT YOYO' on 14th September 2009, to be followed by the debut album 'FLOWER TO THE PEOPLE'.
Due to several setbacks it has taken some two and a half years to bring the album to completion and during this time the three original girls Nicola, Lucy and most recently Liz have all moved on to other things and therefore the finished album features Uncons old and new( Surely that must beat the Sugababes record for most altered line-up!).
The album is predictably quirky and kitsch and one particular track features special guest rapper SIR BERNARD CHUMLEY!(Yes, the very same) and two or three of Sir Bernard's associates feature elsewhere on their long player.
DREW, ANDREW, TOM, MEL, LAURA (Drew's 17 year old niece) and KELLY - THE UNCONVENTIONALS - are back with their unique mix of 60s/70s retro/modern vocal harmony, music to make you smile (most of the time)! The perfect escape from these Credit Crunch times...:)
