The Underlings are a garage band with a twist - not only do they rock in a savage and primitive way, but the clever riffs and pop hooks of their tunes are undeniable. The ‘lings typically short tunes are pure American Rock and Roll, bringing to mind the bare-bones rattle of their influences - X, MC5, the Blasters, the Stooges, Lou Reed and Cheap Trick.
They were formed by songwriter/guitarist/singer Ed Cole in his west-Eugene garage in 2006. Cole recruited the blue-collar rhythm section of Dave Peterson (bass, vocals) and Bryant Grace (drums) with a craigslist ad that listed influences of “Television, Minutemen and Ted Nugent.” Following 3 years of steady gigs and a CD released by the northwest indie label Daily Records, the Underlings have displayed a hard-working ethos of Rock, delivering maximum customer service, chord by chord, beat by beat, making sure every pop gem is served up with a coating of sweat, blood and pure electric raunch. Satisfied venue patrons frequently become full blown fans, ready to consume the intangible product served up by this band: a true Rock and Roll experience.
