Unleaded - Scream at the World (Carpe Diem 2 trailer)
Unleaded was formed in 1998 in Nicosia Cyprus by Andrew Laghos (guitar, backing vocals), Nick Karavas (bass, lead vocals) and Iacovos Iacovides (drums). The same year they entered a Battle of the Bands contest in Amarte club in Nicosia where they shared 1st place with another young band. Later on that year, they recorded an album 'UnLeadeD' which was independently distributed around the island, and received airplay on major Cypriot radio stations including KissFm, Radio1, BFBS and Radio Elios. After this, military obligations and studies abroad slowed down the band but they still played regular live shows at the Hard Rock Cafe in Ayia Napa as well as some performances in Nicosia. In 2004 Unleaded recorded a 3-song demo CD. The songs on the demo have been received with much enthusiasm from music fans around the world.
Their song "Revenge" was a Winner in the VH-1 'Song Of The Year' songwiting contest! It was also voted "Most Rocking Track" (for 2004) & reached 2 in the Progressive Rock charts of Garageband.com.
"Revenge" went to No.1 in a number of other online mp3 sites as well including 'Vitaminic's Progressive rock chart', the 'MP3 Songs Top 100 Chart', and was a winning song in the 'Loopwise Songwriting Contest'. Due to the success of the song, it is featured in the trailer of the horror film 'Rip Cage'!
"Lie" was a Finalist song in the Rock/Indie Category of the 'UK Songwriting Contest' while "Scream at the World" is 1 in Garageband's All-time Industrial charts out of over 1000 songs! The song is featured on 'Toronto Experimental Artists: Vol. 2' a various artists compilation CD and appears on the soundtrack of the movies "Liquid Adrenaline" & "Carpe Diem 2".
The interest in the band continued as many music sites and webzines showcased unleaded and provided positive reviews about their demo CD. In addition the band begin to receive airplay abroad and on many webcast and podcast shows. In Cyprus and Greece there were articles about the band in media such as The Cyprus Weekly newspaper, Arxipelagos newspaper, Flash magazine & e[x]treme generation magazine, while the band was interviewed on radio stations such as the Cyprus Broadcasting Station (CyBC2 & CyBC3). Following the success of the Greece football team in Euro 2004, Unleaded recorded "Elladara". Although the vocals of this song are in Greek, Elladara still reached 2 in the 'Underground Music Charts Top 100'. The band is one of the Editors' picks on Download.com where they have received over 25,000 downloads of their mp3s. Unleaded are now officially disbanded.
