ABSLOUT NOISE

"I think it is not legal to write in this blog that drinking is a good way to party. Still, I guess I can write that Obnoxious Girl is a drunken song played by a drunken band. And it's fun. I mean its point is to rock loud and nevermind the bollocks, you know. Sure, the singer of The Upallnights does not have the best voice ever, the song is not the most original one, but this band from Stockholm enjoys what they do and they do it good. Fresh. Energetic. Yeah."

KABELBLUME (Live show review)

"Die jungen Schweden von den Upallnights trotzten jeder Situation und waren mehr als bereit zu spielen. Und ihr größter Auftritt seit Bestehen der Band ist durchaus als erfolgreich zu betrachten. Aufregung ist ihnen ins Gesicht geschrieben, doch schaffen Kristoffer, Anders und Co. das noch relativ kleine Publikum zu begeistern. Neue wie ältere Songs wurden vorgestellt und schnell wird klar: die “The Factory Sessions” EP sollte in jedes gut sortierte CD-Regal hören."

(The young swedes of The Upallnights started the show off despite there being bad weather and not too many people in the audience. Their biggest show since the start of the band quickly became a success. You could see the excitement in the faces of the bandmembers but they seemed to hit the nerve of the audience. They played new and older songs and in the end it was clear that "The Factory Sessions" EP belongs in/on every good recordshelf)

NEON ENLIGHTENMENT

"[...] And that’s how we met Anders. Anders is the co-vocalist and guitarist in the band The Upallnights. He handed us a vinyl of their debut EP ‘the Factory Sessions’ and described their sound as pop-punk. Luckily the Upallnights aren’t to be pinned down to pop-punk. Yes, you can find the pop in the melodies and the punk in the attitude of the typical twenty-something who’s still digesting teenangst with last night’s bottle of Jack Daniels, but there’s more to it. First track on the EP, Blueberry Pie, has been capped as my favourite of this summer and also Train to Nowhere caught my attention. But it took me some more downloads before I fully realized the strength of this band. The track ‘The Morning After’ didn’t make it onto the EP, but shimmers of hit potential. It could easily stand next to songs of fellow countrymen the Shout Out Louds. And other songs such as Bang!Bang!Bang! (with its infectious bass line) and Underneath the Covers shouldn’t be hidden away from the better music bars or independent radio stations. The only thing stopping the Upallnights from a breakthrough is a recognizable sound for lazy journalists and fastfood-music consumer. But from the horribly chorused 20/24 to the utterly brilliant The Morning After, while the Upallnights wander through the spectrum of indie music, the sound of their beating rock’nroll hearts can unmistakably be heard at all times."

MEADOW MUSIC

"I was a little surprised as I listened to the latest track from The Upallnights, “The Morning After”. Their music before this points in many directions, but can maybe be described (sometimes) as pop with a punk attitude. But this was quite a different animal: Uplifting pop with brass, a direct song that hooks me. I have no problems with these genre variations The Upallnights shows us, on the contrary, especially if they do it so well as they do."

THE FRONTLOADER
.."The Upallnights come to us from Sweden, and I was quite intrigued by these guys when I read their bio, which describes the band as “one of those bands that materialise out of the industrialised suburbs’ old concrete air-raid shelters, out of pure joy and love for the music. As the old shelter gives birth to frustration, frustration gave birth to a band that plays what can only be described as groundbreaking punk pop with a beat you can dance to and melodies you cannot help but sing along with.” I then took a listen to their song, “The Morning After”, and must say that yes, I was both singing along and dancing. The band is made up of two brothers Anders Wallner and Kristoffer Sundberg, who share lead vocals, along with Erik Dahlström on drums, and Taivas Mikkola on Bass Guitar. They formed in late 2006 and played their first show in May 2007. By sharing lead vocals, Anders and Kristoffer generate an interesting tension that gives their songs an extra dimension. They’ve been accused of lack of focus when it comes to songwriting but defend themselves by explaining that they are only in it for the fun of it, saying that any band that makes music for any other reason should quit this instant. Their goal with their music is to remind everyone that music is supposed to be all about honesty, joy and love."

"The Upallnights sound like a frontal collision between C.Aarmé and the Rakes. Sharp as the first ones, melodic as the second, they are a fun pop/punk band. One EP released (buy it there) but still unsigned, the band is more interesting than the hundreds of bands around playing this kind of music. Train to nowhere is the best proof of that, with unstoppable guitar lines and efficient changes of singer voices (two or three diferent voices?). Promising."

"In this time of political posturing and ramblin' rhetoric I've found someone with whom I can agree: Introducing The Upallnights, who have proposed the following plan for potential supporters: "Let's go to the airport and catch a random flight...Let's got to where the governments don't lie and everything you eat tastes like blueberry pie." If they're including a scoop of vanilla bean ice-cream in the deal, count me in! The Upallnights are nothing more than four unassuming lads from Stockholm armed with guitars, drums, blasting out jangly punk pop bullets that will keep your feet dancing. The cover of their new EP, Factory Sessions, should give you an idea of the band's modus operandi. If you're unfamiliar with the concept of young boys with light sabers, let me tell you they mean business. Stay out of their way, cuz they, um, just wanna have fun."
