The Upshot Trio was formed in the spring of 2006 when members John Arstingstall (guitar), Patrick Creel (drums, percussion), and James Ross (bass) first got together to create music. The trio from Lexington, KY felt an immediate connection and sense of respect for each others musicianship. With similar backgrounds in jazz, funk, and jam-band music they were able to create an original sound that has been described by local press as “cocktail funk.”
The trio recorded their debut album, Cocktail Funk, at Group Effort Studios in Crescent Springs, KY. The album consists of seven original tunes collaboratively written by all three members. Cocktail Funk was released in January 2007.
