‘Little Louie’ Vega’s Dance Ritual is cast from a different mold than other parties in the City of Lights. Vega’s 5-hour solo sets are born out of all night marathons at Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage and David Mancuso’s Loft. Dance Ritual is a slowly-building crescendos of bumpy house music, Afro-Cuban influenced tribal rhythms, and fervent soulful vocals, climaxing with a crowd full of satisfied yet quizzical expressions, wondering where the night went, why the sun is out, and why their feet hurt so much.
I would recommend wearing some comfortable shoes.

Vega is one half of the legendary production duo “Masters at Work,” and is responsible for some of the most definitive sounds of the 90’s. Aside from his original work, he’s remixed everyone from Madonna to Earth Wind & Fire. Aside from his work under the “Master at Work” name, Louie has been the brains behind such side project as “Nuyorican Soul,” producing dance music from scratch with such jazz greats as Roy Ayers, Tito Puente, George Benson, and the Salsoul Orchestra.

Jesse Saunders began spinning records on the Chicago disco scene nearly a quarter-century ago. He helped define the Chicago house sound alongside such legends as Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy, at a time when The Warehouse was the size of The Vagabond’s bar room, and house music was a term unknown outside of Chicago. He’s also credited as the “originator” of house music, his 1984 release “On and On” the first record to ever be officially classified as “house.”
On Saturday he’ll grace The Vagabond’s decks with a soul forged in Chicago over a quarter century ago, and a crate amassed throughout the span of house music’s history.

The Canadian electronic music duo Junior Boys have opt out of the automation-heavy ease which has marred so many live electronic music acts as of late, choosing instead to brandish actual drums and keyboards. And this isn’t just relevant to their studio work: they scoff at the hefty baggage fees which have driven many to leave their bulky equipment at home and pack all their gear neatly into a carry-on laptop case. As of late, their oft-remixed “In The Morning” has enjoyed a lot of recognition, both in the record store and on the dance floor. But it was their 2003 release “Birthday” - functioning as a sly IDM intro to progressive-house superstar Sander Kleinenberg’s 2004 mixtape This is Everybody Too - that really put them on the map. They’ll be coming to The Vagabond as a stop on their North American tour, accompanied by synthesizer-virtuosos Woodhands.

Vega is best known for his productions under the name “Masters at Work,” a duo consisting of himself and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzales. Their formative tracks, such as “I can’t Get No Sleep” and “Work,” have come to define the sound of house music. Louie's sound is deep, funky, and organic with no shortage of soul and draws on disco, Latin, jazz, and even hip-hop.
For his bi-monthly “Dance Ritual” residency his programming spans entire history of dance music, from disco and salsa to funk, soul, and house.
It's a night not to be missed.

Heidi hails from Berlin, Germany. She's currently with Get Physical records, and has been a staple on the scene ever since meeting Richie Hawtin in 1997. Her programming is across the board from minimal subwoofer-rattlers, dirty and deep tech-house groovers, to conga-filled tribal madness.
Audiofly hails from Barcelona, Spain and have releases on a myriad of labels, such as Toolroom, Viva Music, and Nervous records. Their sound ranges from deep and dark to techy and bouncy while touching on everything in between.
