The Velvet Hammer Blues Band emerged in early 2006, taking most of its members from the Suncoast Sidemen, a group deeply rooted in rhythm and blues. The former Sidemen (and women) include lead singer and rhythm guitar player Carolyn Davis, bassplayer Beth "the Velvet" Hammer, keyboard artist and singer Jerry B. Shell, lead guitarist Miles Ferris and drummer Sting Ray Alan.
