We formed in the spring of 2005 as a result of a chance meeting of three like minded musicians at a house party. After some conversation around a conveniently placed piano Velvet was born. The three people present were long time friends Mike and Dave and guitarist Darren Jones who mentioned that he knew a bass player who would probably be keen on playing in a group. A week later the first rehearsal took place and Velvet were fully formed.
We are a lively group composing and playing original material. We have played many local gigs and are begining to make a name for ourselves further afield.
Our intention is to release a 3 track demo CD within the next month with the aim of pushing for gigs at larger venues and organising a UK tour. We are always happy to accept bookings for a variety of events, having in the past played pubs, clubs, festivals, and even have a few weddings booked for the summer.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of you who have supported us in the past (especially those of you who come to every gig without fail, you know who you are :) ) and hope to see you, and some new faces, at a velvet gig soon.
All the best
Mike, Dave, Daz and Hywel

Here is a review of one of our recent gigs. Thanks to the Wyche Music Sessions..
Finally on came Velvet ( http://www.myspace.com/thevelvetsonlinen ) and the night turned funky as Mike, Dave, Hywel and Daz raised the temperature and the volume to end the summer season on a massive high.
Velvet are possibly one of the best Jazz-Funk bands to emerge from the region's music scene and it will be very, very unjust if these four young guys don't get recognition further a-field. Velvet are on their way up the music leagues and their outstanding repertoire of well crafted songs are as good as any pro-band on the top paying gig circuit. These boys are damned good!
The guys provided the audience with a high quality 45 minute set including "Kings & Queens", "Rainy Days", and "Walk It Like You Talk It". Mike Mann's keyboard skills and flowing vocals were complimented by the terrific guitar phrasing and solos from Daz Jones while Dave Arthur excelled on the drums and the spider fingers of Hywel Pothecary slithered across his bass guitar fingerboard faultlessly to give us breathtaking backline riffs. Solos by all four members of the band were received with applause before the final time bell rang and Velvet bought the set to a solid conclusion with "She Doesn't Need To Know". Thanks guys!
People who deserve a mention
Ray Stroud- Ray is not only a fantastic guitarist, songwriter and general musician, but Ray is also one of the hidden members of Velvet. Ray provides our PA for most gigs, support for most gigs and he is one of the driving forces behind the band. Thankyou Ray.
Andy Pothecary - Andy truly is the 5th member of Velvet. He attends all of our rehearsals and gigs and voluntarily helps us set up and pack down as well as giving us ideas and pointers while rehearsing and writing. Thankyou Andy.
Joe Smith - We thought we should give Joe a mention, he has attended ALL Velvet gigs, without fail! What a man!
