A life of indulgence, misbehavior and debauchery has its place, and its merits. No one knows that better than The Very Bad Boys -- it's more than a lifestyle, it's an ethos. After entire lifetimes of living in various fast lanes, speeding along with no regard to safety or moderation, pillaging and looting wherever and whenever the situation
called for it -- and always, always practicing the ways of the Fonky.
New Orleans is their musical headquarters, but their luggage includes souvenirs from the Mississippi Delta, Chicago's South Side, Philadelphia's soul, Texas stompin', and California Crazy.
The Very Bad Boys came together in a cosmic happenstance of egregious proportions. But things got heated, ladies and gentlemen. Oh yes, very heated indeed. So much so that one Very Bad Boy just kind of redeemed
himself, and now is practicing a life of rehabilitation and redemption. As for the rest of us, well. . . we checked the local Reform School for Men and found someone equally frightening, equally angry, equally antisocial and dangerous. We checked him out. He's Very Bad. Just can't behave, no matter what. Maulin' Mike Maxwell, they
call him. Don't turn your back.
But with all this Badness, the universe got out of whack. Just no balance, folks. So heaven did what heaven does, and sent The Very Bad Boys some of its very own cure, in the form of two angelic presences.
We call them The Sisters of Mercy. Carol Caroompas and Aimee Abbett take the heat and turn it to some beautiful cool, while managing to
look very hot.
Original history of the VBB
It was a hard, rainy night in Martinez, CA when The Very Bad Boys were born.
Stepping off the train with his larger-than-life stand-up bass, Scott Riggs had just returned from a grueling four-month tour of the United States with an up-and-coming country star. But things didn't work out, and Scott came home.
As he was walking down Ferry Street, he heard the plaintive wail of a lonesome blues harmonica. Intrigued, he sought the source of the sound and found, at the corner of Ferry and Main, a lonesome and very soaked Danny White, standing in the wind and rain, playing the blues. Scott was compelled to pull out his bass and play along.
Not much later, Jim Caroompas came stumbling out of College Lane to see what all the commotion was about, and heard Scott and Danny, and had no choice but to go home and get his guitar, and play along.
Over the course of the next several hours, The Very Bad Boys were born.
And so it is that these three musical refugees have remained together, performing in Martinez venues their brand of blues and soul, acoustic and electric, night and day, rain or shine.
Come see them. Then they won't be so gosh-darn lonesome. And bring a towel if you think of it.
