   About The Very Foundation

Coming this Fall 2009:

This Restless Enterprise - Produced by Pat Kearns

A sordidly detailed account of the pleasures and pitfalls of a year of wandering when, after a decade, she gives back the ring, marries an unknown soldier and moves to the town you grew up in.

Featuring performances by:

Nate Query (Decemberists); Jenny Conlee (Decemberists); Kristie Rethlefsen (Sestina); Chris Chard; Dave Jorgenson (Blind Pilot, Kieskagato); Kelly Simmons (Blue Skies For Black Hearts); Pat Kearns (Blue Skies For Black Hearts); Jasmine Ash (Oh Darling); Andrew Stern (Future Historians, Blue Horns, Fast Computers); Caroline Buchalter (the Upsidedown, Larry Yes); Jesse Kinder; Robyn Freatman; Paul Noel (Blue Skies For Black Hearts); and Donna Ramsey

Engineered by Mark Brachmann

*****Press for This Restless Enterprise*****

". . . the most seamless fusion of vitriol and simple pop pleasure this side of 'Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright.' . . .this is sharp, serious, and just out-and-out spectacular stuff. Plenty of bands channel their romantic side, but rare is the group that feeds it Jager shots and slips out the next morning while it’s still in the shower. Kudos, fellas." - Metro Spirit, Augusta, GA

“A slice of the dirty underbelly of romance . . . In these days of syphilis and swine flu, I suppose this is what passes for modern courtship." -Paniscus Revue

" . . . reminiscent of what Nick Cave might have done had he teamed upwith Leonard Cohen, took some anti-depressants and listened to big band music." - Target Audience Magazine

Past Press

" . . . a rock band with clear creative ability, and the future looks bright." - Portland Mercury

"Through all stages, the band is impressively solid and confident." - Willamette Week

"The band has a constant energy that spans all of its experiments in rock song structure." - The Oregonian

" . . . the creative spirit is a buoy in a sea of mediocre Pac NW rock." - Three Imaginary Girls

". . . a musical orgasm. Always challenging and musically intense, The Very Foundation come through with an eclectic brand of rock that rivals that even of "Sandinista"-era Clash."- NeuFutur

" . . . sounds smattered together to form an art-rock goulash . . . stewed to perfection." - Slug Magazine

" . . . premium musicians and a memorable set of songwriting ability." - Sctas

"Every track is an experience of bliss . . ." - Crooked Camera

"A huge evolutionary step forward . . . they're rocking and arty in just the right amounts." - Splendidezine

" . . . no apologies, just shake your head and turn those guitars up. It's when they hit the more dynamic parts of each song that you realize how good the song is." - The Big Takeover

" . . . the songs sound inspired." - Indiepop.com

ABOUT STYNX, WI-FLI, AND THE NATURE OF “SUFI SAFARI”:
Known primarily as the bassist & bandleader for MarchFourth, John Averill was also the co-creator & musical mastermind behind Kaosmosis from 2003-2006. Since 2000, his work in the Portland underground event scene as both a singer and producer, in some circles, is legendary (Dahoo Chorus, Roswell Sisters, Manaconda, Nowhere Band, Yeti Snowball, Chow Yun Fat Tuesday, Chopper Won, Flying Dream, Woonami Village... to name just a few entities).

Now, in 2007, Averill returns with Wi-Fli Events to create a show called SUFI SAFARI, and plans on “reclaiming” the space now called "Outlaws" (formerly Bossanova) for one night of fun in the wild kingdom of music and performance. One of John’s trademarks, aside from singing difficult lead vocals (Queen, Jeff Buckley, Beatles, etc) is creating fictitious “one-off” bands. On March 10, his latest creation, called STYNX, will appear for one night, featuring Chet Lyster (Eels, Fernando) on guitar, Carl Tietze (Solovox) on keyboards, and the rock-solid rhythm section of drummer Ryan Moore (Titans of Oblivion) and bassist Arthur Parker (TJoe, Rachel Taylor Brown).

‘BUT DON’T WORRY, STYNX will NOT be playing ANYTHING by the band Styx” Averill explains. “The name was too silly to resist, but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to play anything by Styx, not because it was too obvious, but because we couldn’t find a song of theirs that didn’t suck.” Instead, STYNX will focus on rarely-performed covers of Zeppelin, Supertramp, Radiohead, and other surprises.
