The Viking Chorus is a side project for musicians Carl-Eric Tangen, Benjamin Dubose, David Hendrix, Jesse Erickson, and Kersti Werdal. In addition to playing in their two respective bands, Leo & Orion and Reidar (well technically Kersti isn't in either of those bands, but it's pretty cool these days to have a girl bass player...especially one who plays flute as well and who is a master coffee barista) these five hipsters wanted to satisfy they're craving for well written, introspective, and "pleasing to the ears" country/folk music. Influenced by the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, Ryan Adams, and Nickel Creek do not be fooled by the "country" label they have given themselves. You will not hear any southern "twang" in the vocals (well...maybe just a little) and you will not see any sleeveless shirts or cowboy hats (atleast never onstage). No no, this is country music at it's finest and most tasteful level. There will be clever use of multiple intstruments including guitar, bass, drums, banjo, mandolin, fender rhodes...possibly accordian, flute, trumpet, trombone...tamborine, glockenspiel...kazoo...the list goes on and on. There will also be an enormous amount of vocal harmonies on the cd since each member of the band is more than willing to contribute. That could potentially mean 5 part harmony y'all. FIVE PARTS!!! (please forgive the y'all...one of the those few "southern twang moments") In a nutshell this venture holds all kinds of promise and potential. We hope you enjoy the two songs posted right now. They are preliminary recordings made soley by Ben and Carl-Eric and are just a taste of songs to come. Leave us comments and tell your friends. Oh and don't forget to keep your eyes open for upcoming shows. Our debut performance will be on June 10th at the Teen Awareness Night at the Kaz-Ba in Edmonds. See you there!
Sounds great, when did you find the time to put this together? I've been looking forward to "the country band" for a while, and I'm pleased to say I like what I've heard thus far.
