Bio
............ We are ..The Villeins.., a 5 piece Indie Band from Newcastle. Formed in 2006, we started gigging in early 2007, from our first gig at the Cooperage we’ve gone from strength to strength playing around Newcastle in a number of different gigs and venues, supporting the likes of Rick Witter & The Dukes, Chris Helme (ex seahorses) and The Paddingtons. .. .. 2009 will see ..The Villeins.. getting out of Newcastle and playing in various cities around the UK. .. ......FB.init("711fe67db4526dc56f21d6a6d9646ba7");..........The Villeins.. on Facebook.. .. .. .............. A North-East music magazine recently reviewed two songs from our first EP 'The City': .. .. ..The City..: "...taut drums and bassline, and pleasingly 80's sounding guitars that remind me of Suede ... and the gang like vocals work well ..." .. .. We recently appeared in ..NME.. as one of their Breaking Bands, this is what they had to say about us ... .... " ... you should check out Newcastle's ..The Villeins... Their heavy post punk couldn't be more ..gloomily euphoric.. if it was overdosing in a gutter. Their Muscular dirge rattles about like a skull beneath a cosh - ..it's both dark and enlightening... " .... ..NME Review 2:.. .... The sound of this Newcastle 5-piece seems to be pretty varied, but '..The City..' is their most exciting track. Lyrically, ..it's The Jam gone epic... Musically, it's a slice of post-punk of prog-ish proportions, with tight drumming, warped, angular guitars and a distorted shout of a vocal – it's a breakneck 7 and a half minute ride and one that shows off the band's potential admirably. If they can continue to produce tunes of this calibre, then ..they should be breaking out of Newcastle by the end of the year... .... ..Sandman Magazine 'Nice Guys Finish Last' EP Review:.. .... The Villeins, a 5 piece from Newcastle who are tipped by many to explode onto the indie scene in 2009, after listening to the three tracks on offer here it's easy to see why. 'Nice Guys Finish Last' has a catchy melodic guitar riff that is backed up by a steady blues groove and the always welcoming Hammond organ, the influence of The Black Crowes and Deep Purple can be heard and comparisons could be drawn to Kula Shaker. The funky, intertwining guitar and organ continue on 'Lex Luger' with singer Dave showing a particularly strong vocal range. Finally 'Me & You' harks back to a Brit-Pop era influence with a ballad you would have expected The Seahorses to have released. With so many new bands at the moment trying to sound like they are from the 80's a reinterpretation of the much maligned mid 90's would be a very welcome reprieve. All in all a very promising introduction from a band that will hopefully grace some venue's outside of the North East very soon. .... ..Narc Review:.. .... The Villeins are a straight-ahead rock band with a high level of musicianship ... These guys could go down a storm with teenage girls. (Cheeky!) ...... .... ..The Crack:.. .... The Crack recently reviewed our set whilst supporting Chris Helme @ O2 Academy, Newcastle ... "the five-piece started the night and getting a lively reaction from a great turn out of loyal fans. Brandishing tracks with great oomph, their own front man delivered an entertaining performance of true zeal, plaing a startling array of original material which consisted of an upbeat assortment of tunes and impressive guitar licks." ...... .............. Thats enough about us, if you like what you see and hear, then our gigs are always listed on this page. .. .. All promoters and bands, if you wanna get in touch then just leave us a message on here or email us @ thevilleins@hotmail.co.uk. .... See you Around, .. .. ..The Villeins.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. -
