"Tight as the nethers of a duck, moving confidently between strident indie and down-the-line bluesy rock and roll" RICHARD PITT, BBC Bristol Introducing.
THE LAST YEAR!
The Volt have played a number of high profile gigs including support for The Subways at Camden’s KOKO club and Bristol Academy, and a rammed slot at last years Glastonbury Festival on the “Late ‘n’ Live” stage. Other London gigs include The Fly in Soho, The Barfly and The Purple Turtle in Camden, and the Monto Water Rats. Thanks to their growing local fanbase in the South West, highlights have been their own headline shows at Moles Club in Bath, and Academy 2 in Bristol.
"Today [Bristol Academy] we have the ever evolving The Volt, who are the perfect example of a young band getting better with each new song they write" BILLY LUNN, The Subways
In 2008 The Volt entered MTV’s “Get Seen Get Heard” talent contest and were mentored by Ross Millard from The Futureheads. The resulting television and MTV website exposure included a band biography, studio sessions, a filmed live performance and the contenders, semi-final and final shows. After a rigorous selection in front of industry judges they were confirmed as overall 2008 competition winners.
“They’ve proved they have songs, that they’re a good live band and they have energy, which is something that anybody who goes to a rock show wants to see” ROSS MILLARD The Futureheads
In addition to the TV exposure and industry interest, the band has been featured in the 'How to Make it in Music' guide for unsigned musicians and bands, and they have recorded a ‘Spanking New Session’ at MTV studios. Click link below:
The band are going from strength to strength, and in recognition of the quality of their live act, The Volt was nominated for the Live and Unsigned category of the 2008 Vodafone Live Music Awards.
THIS YEAR
In January The Volt were chosen from bands in the Southwest to perform on a rotating headline tour of four o2 Academy's; Glasgow, Bristol, Islington and Oxford. Other recent gigs include London City Showcase; The Thekla; The Great Escape; Liverpool Sound City; Bath International Music Festival, and Beachbreak Live after winning the festival's Academy of Contemporary Music 'Battle to the Beach' competition. Picked by a panel led by Radio 1's Huw Stephens, they performed in The Big Weekend Fringe festival in Swindon and launched their debut double A-side single 'Start Again' and 'Punches' on 4th May. Recorded in Real World studios by Greg Freeman, released on and for sale at upcoming gigs!
