THE VOW are a three piece alt-rock/powerpop band formed in Peterborough England in february of 1997 by Vocalist & Guitarist Paul Cummins and Bassist Rich Mackman.
After some months writing and demoing songs, the pair were introduced to Steve Farmer who lived in the nearby town of Oundle- a phenomenal drummer who's rambunctious enthusiasm completed the line-up and cemented an astonishingly powerful union that continues to this day.
Within weeks the band had recorded its first 3-track CD (it featured soon-to-be live favourites Archetype, Childlike, and sprawling alt. metal anti-violence anthem Everyone Is Scared) with gifted producer Andy Hawkins (The Damned, Wildhearts, MC5's Wayne Kramer, Pigeon Detectives and Dead Kennedys) and proceeded to play extensively, and in any situation conceivable, across the UK for the following three years.
The band picked up hundreds of rave fanzine reviews, glowing local press on a regular basis, various support slots (with Midget, China Drum, My Vitriol, and bizarrely enough, ex Jimi Hendrix bassist Noel Redding) and liasons with UK Indie labels (Elemental Records financed the release of an EP in June 1999.) The Vow were featured in Kerrang Magazine's Best New Bands feature in April 2000, and BlueFire Records also released 'One Last Adventure Before Monday' on its classic SnakeBite City Nine album. 'Guitarist' magazine even saw fit to include the track 'Childlike' on it's April 1998 cover CD, stating boldly,"this is one vow we hope will break....."
With the addition of 2nd guitarist Mike Mueller in late 1999, the band continued to play shows through until Sept 2000. But, overworked, burnt out from touring, and in scism with their then manager, The Vow decided it was time for a protracted break, and members took time out to concentrate upon other projects.
Vocalist/Guitarist Paul Cummins took time away from live music for almost three years, studying music production & industry at various colleges in the UK, and writing with artists including The No Tomorrows' Baz Kane and Midget's Richard Gombault.
Bassist Rich also plays for new wave/powerpop group The Contrast, signed to Little Steven Van Zandt's label Wicked Cool Records. Their 7th Album 'God Of Malfunction' has just been recorded and will be released February 2010 to a growing Stateside fanbase.
Drummer Steve Farmer also works with Think Floyd, the UK's leading Pink Floyd tribute, touring across England and Europe.
The decision to return to playing live and recording for The Vow has so far yeilded a rapidly growing number of new demo tracks, the 'Just One Blood' EP completed in February 2008 (featuring the tracks 'Alien', 'Touch', live favourite 'Ghosts' and 'Lunatic') and a new EP "CageBreaking" (featuring the tracks 'Falling In Line', 'Liberation' and 'The Last Remaining Light') Which was released in April 2009
The band are also in the process of securing a new publishing deal, and will play strategic gigs throughout the rest of this year.

Hullo, hullo! My studies are going fine, I guess, although my M.A. (English Philology) thesis is still at the 0-pages stage and my first (short) piece of the PhD thesis needs corrections. I've recently written an article "Bowie wired in a ... Tokio Hotel? - manifestations of the glam aesthetics in the language of lyrics" writing of which would be fun but for the fact that I had only 4 days to do it. The demo of Politics of Envy sounds good as it is to me but whatever we do we can always do it better, right? Looking forward to hearing the new 3 tracks.
Yes, I still remember about you and I'm still your fan - even though I don't write much and don't drop by as often as I'd like to. Hows life? Are you working on any new material?

Hello, hello! I'm busy busy busy - especially because f the -beginning-of -the-new-academic-year total chaos at the university concerning timetables. I had a laugh today when my friend who also teaches practical grammar at the German Department (this is our job and obligation - free of charge, of course, as we are PhD students) told me that her students, when asked what makes a compound/complex sentence, that it is .... the number of commas LOL! Looking forward to hearing something new from the Vow.
