Album: Get Together, by Thierno Camara A WAAW Band production (*some songs accompanied by the WAAW band*)
WAAW band plays Mbalax, a pure form of roots African music from the streets of Senegal, believed by many Senegalese to be a true root of American music. WAAW band's unique and original approach to this ancient genre makes it fresh, and new.
The WAAW Band is a movement which was started in West Africa by Thierno Camara, a renowned Senegalese Bassist/ Singer/ Songwriter/ Composer who had performed internationally with some of Senegal's most popular artists. In 1998, Thierno had moved to New York and began collaborating with great American musicians such as Ornette Coleman, Michael Brecker and Greg Osby, etc. after which time he began to expand his original concept. By 1999, his concept and vision was legally named WAAW Band™, and began touring the United States and Canada.
RECENT REVIEWS:
"Led by legendary Senegalese Bassist Thierno Camara, WAAW Band is the first NYC-based group to present authentic and original M'balax Music of the Wolof people from Senegal, West Africa! WAAW Band's original and fresh approach to M'balax reflects the diverse talents of the group's members and how they infuse the musical traditions of their homeland with the popular styles they have absorbed as young musicians living in New York City."

"Bassist-songwriter Thierno Camara toured the world with many giants of Senegalese music before settling in New York. The WAAW Band was formed because he had something to prove: That a fine M'balax band could be assembled right here in Gotham."
