The Walking Liberties are the new band formed by Cliff Retallick (vocals, piano, guitars), Darryl Jones (guitar, pedal steel) and Jim Martin (drums) from the ashes of MERCURY DIME (r.i.p.). Having cut two records, Baffled Ghosts (OpryFiredHank) and Darkling (Yep Roc), working with producing and guitar legend Mitch Easter (REM, Pavement), performing across America and charting in No Depression, Mojo and topping many critics best-ofs in Europe and the States, the ghost hasn't been that hard to find again. The journey continues, as if it ever ended. **************************************************
Here's what the press had to say about Cliff Retallick and Mercury Dime the first time around:********************************************************************
“Lead singer and songwriter Cliff Retallick belts these songs with authority and his piano skills are formidable indeed, but its really his lyrics that are his finest work. Retallick is a master lyrisit, capable of infusing bleak realities with humor and irony.”****************
--- Greg Corrao, CMJ*********************************************************
“Excuse me if I repeat myself, but here we find ourselves in front of a first choice songwriter and instrumentalist on the level of Nicky Hopkins … He is a genius on the keyboard.”******************************************************************
--- Marco Verdi, Buscadero, Milan, Italy******************************************
“Mercury Dime has single-handedly led beauty back to pop music … Instead of sounding like a record company product, which most pop music suffers from these days, “Darkling” envelops more like a novel, first warm and inviting but up to darker matters after repeat listens … This is ear candy.”****************************************************
--- Mark Guarino, Chicago Daily Herald*******************************************
“Cliff Retallick’s generally exquisite lyrics come across more oblique and overtly poetic than typical for this genre of music (alt. country), often evoking politics as images in the throes of word play (“You’ve got AWACS in your haystacks”) or as pure fantasy in the enchanting “Robert Kennedy works in the airport”. Mercury Dime sounds ready to step to the top of the class.”*********************************************************************
--- Art Menius, The Independent, Chapel Hill***************************************
“Retallick lures you into his strange and cosmic world.”*****************************
--- Rick Cornel, No Depression**************************************************
“The strong lyrical eloquence of main writer Cliff Retallick is underscored by sophisticated arrangements … A real gem.”**************************************************
--- Relix********************************************************************
“Like the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk, I found myself transported by Darkling into a strange, new and delirious manner --- Please sign me up for the Mercury Dime frequent flyer program.”**************************************************************
--- Chris Stamey (the dBs, producer: Whiskeytown, Le Tigre)*************************

Beginning in the late 1990s, the lower back tattoo became popular, especially among young women. Lower back tattoos are often oblong in shape, following the slope of the back on either side of the woman's spine. The lower back tattoo is body decoration with the intent of emphasizing sexual attractiveness. Generally, a lower back tattoo will be designed to emphasize the shape and curvature of the female figure. While such tattoos have become increasingly popular and accepted in recent years, they remain an object of derision in some quarters. Detractors consider such tattoos in this location as suggestive of promiscuity and an indication of Raunch Culture.[1] Slang terms for the tattoo include "tramp stamp," "cum-catcher," "ho tag," "ass antlers," "bull's-eye," "Panama City license plate," "whore brand," "slag tag," etc.
I'm overjoyed to be included amongst the Walking Liberties pack of pals. Timeless and tireless memories and melodies. love and peace, Jeffrey Dean Foster
