Walt James is a veteran guitarist from the Columbus, OH area. After playing in various local cover and original rock bands, and in between times of working with UFO Bassist Pete Way on his two solo albums, Walt formed his own power trio in 2000 with drummer/multi-instrumentalist Linda Dachtyl and bassist Ray Vellani, with the idea of creating an old-school heavy rock act with aggression, loud lead guitars, and thundering drums, while at the same time giving the members of the group musical fulfillment by giving them room to stretch beyond the constraints of overly-formulated rock music, which had always been a frustration for members of the WJB in previous projects. The result is a power trio with an old-school sound, complete with the guitar leads, spontaneous jams, thundering drum fills, progressive arrangements, and raw talent and musicianship of the rock bands of yesterday, yet the band oddly has been described by many to be a fresh sound, in spite of its old-school influences and flavor.
Good to see the band is up and running again. I will check out the Oldfield's gig. No need to put me or Cary on the guest list. I don't believe in that cheapskate stuff;-).... especially when I can hear one of the best rocking guitarists I've ever worked with in this town or anywhere else for that matter.
