The Wang Dang Doodle is a groovy record hop hosted by DJ Phast Phreddie the Boogaloo Omnibus, New York City's bossest DJ. Event can have any kind of music he so desires: soul, funk, R&B, rockabilly, jazz, rock and roll, ska, doo wop, exotica, surf, mambo, cumbia and assorted weirdness. Almost always the music will date before 1972.
Past Wang Dang Doodles have featured such fabulous guest DJs as Dave the Spazz (Music to Spazz By), Rex Doane (Fool's Paradise), Lenny Kaye (Nuggets, Patti Smith Group), Billy Miller (Norton), Gaylord Fields (The Gaylord Fields Show), Mr. Fine Wine (Downtown Soulville, Bumpshop), Philthy Phil (SPQR, Templars), $mall ¢hange (Blackcrack, Rubulad), Switched on Audrey (luxuriamusic.com), Bob Shannon (WCBS-FM) The Empress of Soul (Empire State Soul Club), DJ Sei (ABC Rebel Night), DJ Junichi (ABC Rebel Night), DJ Kaneta (Facing Facts, Tokyo) and Juke Joint Jonny (Goofballs).
The next WANG DANG DOODLE will take place on Friday July 31 at Trophy Bar (351 Broadway (@ Keap Street) in Lower Williamsburg, Brooklyn. SUMMER TWIST PARTY! Twist and surf records will be played, along with songs about summer activities. Guest DJ will be Charles Gaskins of Hullabaloo fame. Special Guest DJ will be Gaylord Fields of WFMU, the Freeform Station of The Nation. Mr. Fields will be doing a special set around midnight. PLUS, also around that time, Brooklyn Babydoll will be on hand, showing everyone how to twist. This will be the wildest Wang yet! The action starts at 10:00 PM and we swing until 4:00 AM. Don't you dare miss it!!!
