Once upon a time there were thirteen British Colonies on the coast of North America who fired their British King. These notorious upstarts declared themselves sovereign men. A small group of educated British colonial subjects, using sound reason, Christianity, and Free & Accepted Freemasonry, wrote that they were free from bondage to any king. Some of them said that all men are born with the same exact unalienable rights. They asserted rights were not granted by a King, but came directly to each human being from their Creator in Heaven. This was all in treasonous defiance to the King's (and many Englishmen's) belief that only monarchs and aristocrats are born with the right to rule anybody.
Everyone in the Empire was subject to the King's Law. The King's Laws were tacked up on poles and walls across the lands. This is how the people learned of new decrees, land, animal and produce confiscations, conscriptions, taxes, wars, and any other thing they had to do or give up. Nobody could ever argue with the King's agents. The King did not allow it. If the King said you had to do something, then you had better just shut up and do it.
The very idea that common born peasants and merchants could rule themselves seemed, to the noble classes with their land and titles, a most ridiculous and dangerous idea that must be stopped. The French Revolution (with its Declaration of the Rights of Man) was modeled on the American Revolution by associates of the Americans, but their peaceful firing of their King was infiltrated by Jacobin Freemasons who introduced the guillotine and it turned into a bloody massacre.
