The bands I listened to most when I was growing up were Cream, the Grateful Dead, the Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Kinks, and the Flying Burrito Brothers. I was also a big fan (and still am) of Gram Parson's (Burrito Brothers) solo work. I don't know how much influence any of those bands had on my music, but I've been told I remind people a little of Ray Davies (the Kinks), which I consider a great compliment. I learned to play lead guitar listening mostly to Eric Clapton, Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane), Robin Trower (Procol Harum), and Jimi Hendrix, although I definitely didn't end up sounding like any of them.

My lyrics may be a bit like Randy Newman's. As far as the music, I was definitely influenced by the Kinks, but I probably lean (unintentionally) toward more of a Tom Petty sound.
After having been away from music for most of my adult life, I got involved in home recording in January 2003 and started playing the guitar again after many years of neglect. I've written and recorded over 140 songs since 2003. Many of them are orchestral instrumentals created using a variety of synthesized and sampled sounds, but since 2006, I've been concentrating on lyrics, vocals, and a more guitar-oriented rock/pop sound.
Although I've played in bands in the distant past, I'm not currently performing live.
