Television
Don't watch too much TV at all anymore. Once a week, I try to catch my favorite cooking shows; America's Test Kitchen, and Lydia's Italy. Oh, and Dr. G, Medical Examiner! Love that freakin' show!!
Books
Mostly true crime, mystery, crime fiction, horror, forensics, criminal psychology. I'm very interested in psychology, especially the "criminal" psyche.
Heroes
Anyone who has the courage to stand up for what they believe in... people who think for themselves and don't accept society's standards blindly!
Watch this video about self-injury. You just might learn something. We don't do this for fun, ya know!?

I love to write for my own pleasure! Been doing it since grade school. Mostly poetry, some short stories, articles, etc. I've been told that my writing now tends to be "dark", whatever that means... but most of it is bourne out of anger, pain, and sorrow. I pour out the feelings that crowd my taxed mind onto paper, and coincidentally (or maybe not?) the majority of feelings that I write about are not "happy and shiny." I think this is because when I'm happy, I'm enjoying the moment! When something bad happens, one way I cope is to write it down. I don't expect everyone to like what I write, however, I do appreciate constructive criticism. I write for MY enjoyment, for release... I don't get too technical, knowing all the different types of poetry, etc. I mean, I KNOW all that, I just don't write that way. I write what I feel. And I love doing it!
One of my greatest passions in life is music. I don't know what I'd do without it. Music has gotten me through the hardest times in my life. My taste in music is very eclectic. I don't limit myself to one era, genre, etc. Music speaks to me in ways no human can. I wish I could play an instrument, but I can't. Although I do have the gift of song. My mother and her family were all singers, and I know I get my voice from her. Music changes lives...
I strive to be active in the world around me. There are many causes I think are worth fighting for. Some of the things I'm involved with are the National MS Society, Breast Cancer Awareness, Domestic Violence Prevention, Advocacy for the Mentally Ill, Amnesty International, Save Darfur, Congress Watch, etc. Yes, if you ask me what I believe about something, I will give you my honest opinion. I can be very blunt, and I believe honest IS the best policy! Sometimes people are offended with my views, or by my personal opinions, but I'm not a robot... I don't follow society blindly. I make it a point to know what's going on in the world, and I try to do what I can to help those that truly need it. My friends and family sometimes call me a "conspiracy theorist" because I have some "out there" ideas. I'd rather be called that than a "follower!"
.
I'm a survivor. I went through some horrible physical and mental abuse in my relationship with my ex-boyfriend. I was homeless at one point, lost relationships with family and friends, and ended up in the hospital more times than I can count. I finally got away from him. I saw my mother suffer through a rare form of breast cancer and die at the age of 58. I was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. And in July of 2009, my father had a severe stroke that should have killed him. (Thankfully it didn't, and he is fighting like hell to get better!) I've seen things most people shouldn't have to. But through it all, I have remained. I may have scars, both physically and mentally, but I'm still standing!!
One thing in my life keeps me going above all else: my son. He is beautiful, brilliant, talented, intelligent, has common sense, is protective, loyal, hardworking and honest. He is 17 years old, but is more of a man than most 30 year olds! He also knows how to have fun: he plays in a band, writes, enjoys photography, family, friends, etc. He is the love of my life, and the best thing to EVER happen to me!!
Anything else you want to know, ask me... I just might tell you...
Who I'd like to meet: Paul McCartney, Cleopatra, Roman Emperor Constantine, General Robert E. Lee, Jane Goodall, Eva Peron, Johnny Depp, Ray Liotta, William Wallace, my grandmother Lorna Rae who died before I was born, South African Freedom Fighters, Colin Powell, Mozart, Scaliari, Marquis de Sade, etc... listed in no particular order of course...
Just spreading the word and thought you might be interested! :)
