Apply the Gallagher-esque swagger and combine it with catchy riffs and powerful harmonies, and you find the basis of The Wednesdays sound.
The Wednesdays are a four-piece rock band from Uppingham (Rutland, UK), influenced by such artists as Oasis, Feeder, Jimmy Eat World and the Foo Fighters.
Originally formed at the start of 2006 by Josh Walker and Mike Brazier, when they had serious need to satisfy a missing musical urge. Frontman Josh had a catalogue of songs already written, hours after they began Mike and Josh recorded a rough demo of their hope filled anthem, The Arrogance of Me. Although a very rough demo, recorded in the Uppingham scout hut on a small 8-track recorder, the song itself shows the beginnings of great talent and song writing flare.
A week later they took this to their close friends, Ben McNicholas and Ryan Field. As soon as the song finished playing, Ben and Ryan joined the band, and The Wednesdays were now complete! Although the band itself is relatively new, all of the members have much experience playing to many crowds, both locally, and internationally, in previous locally established acts.
Because of the timing, The Wednesdays set their first goal: The 2006 Rutland Battle of the Bands, held at the Vale of Catmos College. With less than two months to prepare, the work began polishing up songs and live performance. Six weeks later, with a blistering, energetic live performance; they took 1st Place, fighting off strong competition from six other bands, including nationally established act Dog Army and local legends cardboardbox.
The victory was a huge triumph for the band due to the credibility of the judging panel, which included Rutland Radio DJs Rob Persani and Graham Wright, and respected musician, Jay Goldmark.
Now The Wednesdays set their focus to the recording of their first CD, set for release this summer, featuring the pogo-frenzied, Lets All Be The Same, comically cynical, Do As I Say (Not As I Do) and the dark lament of Fiend. Demo recordings of the four mentioned songs can be heard on this page as a taster of what is to come, Late Summer 2006!
Now with their fresh success, The Wednesdays look to play anywhere and everywhere to get their music to as many new faces and fans as possible
