Some of you may have known The Whammies when they were called The Guest VJ's. Some true fans from the early beginnings may even remember when we were called The Brat Pack. We think that we hold the title for most band name changes within a single year, but the votes are still out. We began as a band in 2006 and called ourselves The Brat Pack. Well it turns out that there was another band named The Brat Pack in Chicago, and they trademarked that name and told us that we needed to change ours. So, legally, we had to change our name, and that brought about the name The Guest VJ's. This, we thought, was a very well thought out name and played off the old MTV days when VJ's (Video Jockeys) used to play actual videos on MTV. Now you kids might be too young to remember anything past MTV Cribs, but they really did play videos, one after another, on MTV. In fact they would over play the same videos over and over again, just like the radio stations that we have here in Cincinnati. So, every once and a while they would bring in a "Guest VJ" to play videos that weren't necessarily the most popular songs, but they were still pretty cool. And that was the premise of our band, play songs that not every cover band plays. We never thought that there would be some confusion with the name and that people would have a hard time understanding that it was VJ instead of DJ or BJ....you get the picture, so we changed the name again! The Whammies are entering their third year of delivering the 80's goods to clubs, festivals and private functions around the tri-state. Check us out sometime!
