The Whippets were a four piece band from Wakefield, the North of England's greatest city. Sadly they are no more, but please have a look at the 'top friends' bit to see what pies their fingers are in nowadays
'I at first of course imagined this to be a joke band, but they do exist!' (Steve Lamacq... Lamacq Live 06/02/06)
'The Whippets are an impressive embryonic band...which gets the most cynical listener screaming along' (This Is Fake DIY)
'It's lively and it's tuneful and they play with a smile on their face and a heart on their sleeve' (Vibrations)
'they have loads of energy, loads of tunes, and a seemingly intuitive gift for finding the right structure and dynamics for each song, there is something just right about them' (Sandman)

Damo Suzuki is a legend! Best known for his stint as the legendary Krautrock pioneers Can as their singer in the 70s, Damo now tours the world to hook up with the best of local musicians to produce stunning sets of improvised music. We cannot stress how good this will be enough - you’ve never experienced anything like a Damo Suzuki show before, even if you’ve been to a Damo Suzuki show before! This extra special show will see Damo backed by the collective brilliance that is Quack Quack and Napoleon IIIrd.
Quack Quack simply the best live band Forest of Sound have ever seen - so much energy, so much musical invention, so much skill... well, it's almost obscene.
One man empassioned alt-pop legend with his reel-to-reel tape player, Napoleon IIIrd is a man of skewed melodies, bouncing beats and a big bucket of inventiveness... and is simply ace.
Charlie Parr is from the same Duluth music scene that spawned the likes of Low and Haley Bonar, and his music delves deep into the back roads of American folk music, there’s hints of Robert Johnson, Nick Drake and Will Oldham in his playing, and a true from the heart power and clarity that is simply stunning. This guy is the real thing, and you can hear it in every note he plays, which would also explain why the people at the superb End of the Road festival ask him back every single year!
Neil McSweeney plays beautifully considered and perfectly restrained music that will delight fans of Low, Adrian Crowley, Nina Nastasia, Mark Kozelek, and Jason Molina.
Deftly fingerpicked folk loveliness from a local favourite - Michael Rossiter perfectly executes traditional folk as well as his own material, sings from his heart and gets the perfect sound from his guitar.
Hiya, I'm just letting you know that you can now download the new album from iTunes here! Hope you like the new tracks up on our myspace, we're going to be swapping them about over the next few weeks so keep a look out. Mezza :o)

"Buys old records - makes new records. Teacher - triple label boss - graphic designer - acid-volk collector - microphone tormenter - bad-ass foreign psych DJ - snappy dresser." (Fat City Records)
"Everyone's favourite crown prince of psychedelic excess" (Boomkat)

Described by Hydragenic as 'a subtle, widescreen sountrack for the bitter break-up of a relationship', London's Elks are unclassifiable in their unconventional brilliance, a band always evolving, taking chances and refusing to sit still. Following a successful string of European shows, the band are coming to Newcastle tonight, Monday 16 June. Also on the bill are Spraydog, Italy's Three In One Gentlemans Suit, and The Black Static of Summer. This one is at the Newcastle Arts Centre, entry is £4 and doors are at 8pm.
These United States/Vandaveer was one of our favourite shows of the year in 2007, so we're super happy to announce that they're both making a return to The Head of Steam, Newcastle on Sunday 22 June. This Washington DC outfit serve up country-tinged folk sautéed in electronic seasoning; along with artier neighbours Le Loup and Exit Clov, These United States offer melodic and amusing ideas to the post-Fugazi landscape, but they're still tied to thoughtful ones-in this case, mostly protesting heartless romantic antics - Village Voice. A co-promotion with our friends Ex-Libris Records, the bill also features John Egdell and Aaron McMullan. Doors are 8pm and entry is £4.
