The Why & Wherefores is a dynamic five piece band swinging all the way from roots to rockabilly, taking in some reggae and latin beats along the way.
The Why and Wherefores have been gigging all through 2007 and recorded a live gig in Huddersfield in July. They've been in the studio this month recording an album due out at the end of the year . It's a whole album of original songs - a cool mix of beats and grooves, played on guitars, fiddle, drums and percussion, tuba, lap steel. They've just got back from the Bentworth Blues festival and The Small World festival in Lincs.
The band was formed at the beginning of 2007 when the duo, Druce + Jones, found itself bursting at the seams. Druce + Jones released "Songs from The Silver Band Room" in 2004 and played live sessions for Paul Jones on BBC radio 2 and Woman’s Hour on Radio 4 .They've toured widely , taking in a range of venues and festivals including Dingwalls, The Borderline, The Great British R&B festival, The Ullapool Guitar festival, Bushy’s Big Wheel Blues festival , Sidmouth festival and Mettmann Blues festival in Germany.
About the Band members....
Emily Druce has released two solo albums (The Guilt Trip released in 2000 and New Day in 2002) .Both albums received extensive airplay, from the likes of Bob Harris, Mike Harding and Paul Jones. http://www.emilydruce.co.uk

She grew up playing musical instruments from the age of five and began song writing and gigging in her teens. She currently also sings with a hot club style jazz band and leads song writing workshops in schools.
She teamed up with Steve Jones in 2001,to form Druce + Jones . She has always been recognised for being more than just a blues woman and The Why and Wherefores sees her using her powerful vocals to drive and float through the boundaries of blues and jazz to somewhere else

Steve’s talents as a songwriter and arranger are evident on Songs from the Silver Band Room and in The Why & Wherefores’ live shows. Steve currently also runs a small company called Jones Kendall , making a range of acoustic guitars.
Since the release of “Songs from the Silver Band Room “ Steve has been compared to Ry Cooder and received many accolades for his guitar playing, which powers it’s way with an ordered chaos through the Why & Wherefores’ new songs.

Thanks for a fantastic set on Saturday - you really made an impression.
We're going to do another couple of eclectic sets to build up a following but we'd love to have you back for a "Why and Wherefores" evening in the not too distant. Again, cracking set which contributed to a fantastic evening, thanks a lot. If you know anyone else who might like a spot please point them in our direction....
It seems like years since the last Moorfest happened and to be honest I think the weather was very much a factor in whether people enjoyed themselves or not. Some thrived in the mud whilst others wept until their dads could pick them up. Moorfest is still carving an identity for itself and in the three years that it has been established I think I can say that the one thing that most people love about it is the friendly atmosphere, and this gig is a good opportunity to meet up with friends that perhaps you haven't seen since the festival, to make new friends, enjoy quality music, get a flavour of Moorfest if you haven't already been and also to talk to the organisers in order to give your opinions on how to improve the festival. We'll also be projecting your favourite photos that you've taken from previous Moorfests to create a live mashup that will adorn the walls of the Brudenell so please send them to bandsformoorfest@yahoo.co.uk and make sure that everyone in the picture is cool for you to use them like this.
There'll be much more to boot like gorgeous organic food, t-shirt stall, films and raffles to win tickets to Moorfest 4 which we're working on right now and aim to make it the best yet.
We really appreciate your continued support in making Moorfest what it is and hope to see you all there.
Many thanks for getting in touch, peeps. Hope you're having fun in the new year. If anyone wants more information about our pioneering "rave cabaret" concept, would like to host an avent or collaborate on a joint promotion, or would like to share your talents with the not-for-profit merchants of live circusesque madness, "Skewed Circus" by "Komedy Kollective Arts Co-operative", send us a message or give us a ring.
We are always interested to hear from bands of all description (anything, rock, dance, and world music), burlesque and breakdancers, djs, circus acts, graffiti artists, or anyone else who would like to enhance the audiovisual eruption of mercurial delight that is the Skewed Circus experience, get in touch and we can take it from there.
This is myspace not yours now do one! When are we going to meet up and do a joint gig? I'm thinking Belfast as Seany is fancying himself as a player these days - although somewhere closer may be more achievable. Hope youre both keeping well. Love Mick
