Sounds Like
A mixture of classic 1950s honky tonk, blues, punk, rockabilly and Gram Parsons-style country-rock.
The Wicked Wench is a 4-piece hillbilly-roots band, with an anything goes, punkabilly attitude, from Lexington, Kentucky. Their music draws heavily on most, if not all, of the North American musical conventions, while relying heavily on 1950s honky tonk, blues, punk, rockabilly and Gram Parsons-style country-rock: they are the band that’s bringing hillbilly back. They reject modern Top 40 pop country sensibilities for a more raw, natural and antique sound. Their odyssey began when two old friends, one a hillbilly singer and the other a jazz drummer, wanted a play style that was more rooted in 'old-timey' music and closer to they're heritage. They adopted the name The Wicked Wench and set out to find other like-minded pickers. Soon they found themselves joined by a doghouse bass slapper, in addition to various and sundry gentlemen in the lead guitar slot along the way, and set out to spread the doctrine of their brand of hillbilly music in August 2006.
