The Wild Hog Band is based in Cashiers, NC and has been entertaining audiences throughout the southeast for over twenty years, since forming in Clemson, SC in the mid-80’s. A Bluegrass band with a contemporary sound, they play and sing a variety of music, remembering traditional roots while exploring new horizons. In the past The Wild Hog Band has opened for musicians such as Mark O’Connor, Norman Blake, John Hartford, and Doc Watson. Recent venues include playing at the Biltmore Estate, Brevard Music Center, Mountain Heritage Day at Western Carolina University, The Brooks Center at Clemson University, The Albino Skunk Bluegrass Festival, Asheville Brewgrass Festival, as well as opening for a rare performance by Tony Rice and John Carlini. The Wild Hog Band has also had the pleasure of opening for the John Cowan Band at Spider Farm on several occasions. They play many private parties and weddings throughout the season and are available for booking. The Wild Hog Band has 3 recordings, including their self-titled CD and Live At Lena’s.
Charles Wood, banjo player for the Wild Hog Band, has won first place at numerous contests, including Osippee Valley Maine in 2007; Winfield, Kansas National Banjo Contest in 2006 and 1999; 2005 Rockygrass Banjo Contest in Lyons, CO; 2004 Renofest, SC State Banjo Contest; 1998 Merlefest Banjo Contest and the Georgia State Banjo Contest in 1992. Charles was invited by Steve Martin to appear with him, Earl Scruggs, Pete Wernick and Tony Ellis at the 2005 New Yorker Festival and that same group appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman. Charles has also been a guest on A Prairie Home Companion. He has 4 CD’s: Somewhere Over The Banjo; Noel; Tour de Banjo and Halo Over the Banjo.
