"If a young band like Wild Moccasins can distinctively remind listeners of greats like these, they should certainly have no issues attaining a massive fanbase that extends outside of their native Houston. This EP is simply too promising for fans of power-pop not to take notice."
"The Wild Moccasins are a good example of a talented band squarely rooted in its local scene, and much better off for it."
"Their harmonies are sweet and sunny, and they've got promising outlines of infectious pop hooks..."
"What struck me about the band was its sheer energy and potential. The music is straightforward chord and harmony pop with heavy twee tendencies, but it's got the advantage of a skilled and active drummer, noodly lead guitar riffs, and loopy bass hooks. They play what a kooky old man archetype character might call "real toe-tappers," and have a great live presence."
“After the first two bands, I honestly didn't figure there'd be much chance the Moccasins -- though the technical headliners --I'd never seen the Wild Moccasins play, so while I truly love their brand-new CDEP, Microscopic Metronomes, I really wasn't sure what to expect.--Two words: holy shit. Those kids are freakin' incredible. They're young, yes, young enough to make me feel like Creepy Old Dude staring at the kids, but their ease and energy onstage belies the age. They played Friday night like it was their last. Show. Ever. And it fucking worked.”
“Before I get into the night that was the legendary blowout that was the Microscopic Metronomes CD release let’s get a few things out of the way…An EP of epic sincerity was released and little is needed to preface this band.- Local musicians take note-- When was the last time you saw a sold out all local show?-
By the time Wild Moccasins took the stage the energy and anticipation of anyone and everyone in the 713/281/832 had built to an unprecedented frenzy. The kids delivered what has to be date not just their finest performance but perhaps the most passionate performance delivered to Houston audiences in a good long time.- Awesome show, phenomenal job"
Reviews on our new cd “Microscopic Metronomes”
“Every now and then, though, we come across a set of recordings that we think from that other time, that other place where “God Only Knows” was set aside for a romp in the salt waters. Microscopic Metronomes is one of those records. From the opening moments, with the band singing together around the sounds of a crackling campfire, it does double-time in shimmer, sway and smiles. Jangling its way through track after track of indie guitar pop as carefree as a sunbeam, the arrangements are clever enough to keep you interested, but with the comfort of artful (not artsy), simple melodies - Joyfully Recommended. ”
“So, how do they do it? How do those crazy Wild Moccasins kids so effortlessly evoke in me feelings of long-gone youth and the need to go do something fun? Well, in the end it's probably a lead-by-example kind of thing, really -- throughout Microscopic Metronomes, the band itself sounds like it's having a blast, just smiling cheerily along as they play some of the sweetest, most unaffected jangle-pop I've ever heard. They exude a kind of exuberant, unforced energy that you can't help but smile along,- I think I've found my new perfect soundtrack for the next sunny day. ”
"Wild Moccasins are from Houston, TX and will probably be playing a super fun clandestine house show that will change your life sometime during the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin this year.- For now they feel like they're young and having fun. And I tend to think that's the point of music about half the time, is having fun. My favorite aspect about the recordings is how extremely busy they are. Guitar solos are often laid atop a female vocalist singing one melody while a male vocalist follows his own melody as well. It perhaps borders testing the listener's patience as nearly every song is over four minutes long, but, I suppose it begs the question, can you really have too much of a good thing? You can decide for yourself I suppose.”
