There are six of us: Aimee, Alison, Colleen, Frances, Holly and Sari.

Aimee also sings with the SCO Chorus and in an ensemble called Ascolta (voice, flute, piano and cello). Colleen studies music at Edinburgh University and is a member of Edinburgh Studio Opera. Frances directed Rudsambee Company of Singers (www.rudsambee.org.uk or click here) in Edinburgh for seven years. Sari plays bodhran and sang with Rudsambee for 11 years. Alison also sings with Rudsambee, and has sung in other Edinburgh choirs for more years than she cares to remember. Holly has sung since she was little and played violin in bands over recent years.

Frances and Sari can often be found singing in the Royal Oak bar in Edinburgh (and occasionally others of us too!)

InfluencesKitka, Rudsambee, Soundsphere, folk music, a cappella and traditional music from around the world...

   About Wild Myrtles

Edinburgh-based a cappella group the Wild Myrtles was formed in February 2007. There are six of us: Aimee, Alison, Colleen, Frances, Holly and Sari. Together we delve into the rich harvest of traditional music all around the world, gathering songs from places as diverse as Scandanavia, Eastern Europe, Africa, USA and Britain, weaving a tapestry of songs to lift the spirit and touch the heart. Much of our material is arranged specially for us by our director, Frances.

We’ve sung in festivals in Dundee and Galway; Edinburgh venues such as The Lot and St Giles Cathedral; Leith Fm radio; Leith Folk Club; Milngavie Music Club; to glowing reviews!

“beautiful harmonies and superb renditions of a varied selection of world folk songs ….. enthusiasm, energy and some truly wonderful singing ….. from traditional Scottish to Africa via the Balkans” ..... “we can’t recommend them highly enough” ..... “a beautiful sound and the whole audience was wowed!” ..... “such gorgeous balanced voices”

We have a 5-track CD for sale for £5 (+ £1 p&p). If you'd like one, please e-mail us (see details below). And we've just finished recording our second CD, which we hope will be ready for sale in the next couple of weeks. Watch this space!

Beautiful sounds. It would be great to have a bit of information about the songs, perhaps on the blog since MySpace doesn't really seem to cater for that!
Best wishes

Sorry for shameless promotions . . .

Monday 24th March 8pm @ The Royal Oak
"To kick off this years Royal Oak Folk festival come and enjoy and evening of fine acoustic music from two of Edinburgh’s up and coming acts.

Support act Raise the Hem are very new to the Edinburgh scene but already making a big impact. An evocative 3 piece band that combine humour with deeper emotions.

Carolyn Anona Scott is a local singer songwriter and a regular gigger on the Edinburgh scene. Playing a selection of original material combined with traditional Scottish folk songs. Acompanied by Beau Nasties fine fiddler, Eddy Hanson.

"Working their way through a selection of songs written by Carolyn - they created a wall of emotion, you really feel like each one of them is performing entirely from the heart. Hanson’s fiddle is effortless - it really does sound like an extension of his voice.
