The Winchester 4 first began in Easter 2006, when Cynrig and Dyfrig started jamming with a close friend who played drums by the name of Gary Judd. With the focus on playing intelligent music with a sound that encompassed light and shade, the band began to take shape. Playing in the confinements a small room in central Aberystwyth, practises would be held weekly. A bassist was needed, and Bam Wheeler was first choice candidate as he clearly loved playing music and had a great ear for the sound the band aimed to achieve.
After a few practises The Winchester 4 took shape, and were now a fully functioning band looking to play gigs. Ironically, before it could take place, Gary had to depart to more northern climates and can now be found in a Manchester band called Skeleton Gun. Fortunately Bam is a drummer born and bred and was playing bass to vary his musical output. Bam then suggested his brother Ben for the role of bassist. With a rhythm section that had played music together for so many years, the band began to refine its sound to what can be heard on our myspace page.
