Up and coming band The Wings are a roots/reggae/dub trio on the move. They are young, have musical talent to burn and play a hip, reggae-infused, original style of music that has widespread, youth appeal.
After they had won a major South Coast band competition in 2005, the guys
started to get serious about "gettin' their music around the world" - music for which they are becoming renown. The Wings also placed in the top 20 of musicoz, schoolies category with the track "Wasted Time"
The Wings formed when they discovered the Wollongong music scene was just an assortment of "hard ass" music. The name came from an idea of creating tranquility, something which was not evident in our local music scene.
Jim (vocals,guitars,didj), Liam (bass), Kieran (drums) formed The Wings on a basis of solid friendships. A Groovacious mix of Reggae,Dub and Roots blends together to form an unmistakeable sound. The basslines be thumpin', guitars be wailin', drums be drivin' and Didgeridoo be shakin' any time you see them.
While the band itself is fairly new their friendship goes back several
years, and is now fermenting into something fresh
and new through their commitment to their music and lifestyle. Their biggest
influences come from the New Zealand dub/reggae
scene (Salmonella Dub, Trinity Roots) and the Australian roots scene (John
Butler, The Beautiful Girls, Xavier Rudd).
Jim,Liam and Kieran always put the band before their studies at high school in year 12 and are confident in doin' it their own way and making it big in the business.
