Voted "Best Roots Act" in the Providence Phoenix, 2009
Nominated as "Best Folk Act" by Motif Magazine, 2009
The Wippets formed in 2002. It’s hard to define exactly what type of music we play. We're a little bit jug band without the jug, a little bit skiffle band,
a high energy trio doing originals and covers of both the familiar and the obscure. We play at outdoor fairs, private parties, local clubs and coffeehouses…anywhere there are people who want to have a good time.
From the Providence Phoenix, July 30, 2009:
"The Wippets’ brand-spankin’ new disc, In It For the Money, is a high-octane take on traditional roots, with the charismatic Matt Martin on vocals and guitar, Sally Sisto on banjo and mandolin, and Tony Depoto hitting the harmonica and kazoo, as well as some serious washboard strummin’ on “All Is Forgiven” and “Deep Thinkin’.” “Always Want More” and the title track are fresh folk-rockin’ numbers, and “Too Many People” is one of many foot-stomping standouts on Money. But the best way to experience the Wippets remains onstage, and chances are Martin, Sisto, and Depoto are coming soon to a diner, drive-in, or dive bar near you, often serenading Sunday breakfast folk at the Liberty Elm as well as regular Thursday night visits to Nick-a-Nee’s."
Heya Sally and all you whipper-snappets, this is to say thanks for spreading encouragement and good cheer and good music and good words. Thanks for the contagious good mood. --Ellis
