The Wishing Well is a page dedicated to showcasing the best in girl groups. There's no real point in me making a poor attempt at writing a history as there are quite a few comprehensive ones around. The best one I've read can be found here: http://www.chachacharming.com/article.php?id=2. This is a brief history of american girl groups and covers a few more obscure releases.
I will change the uploaded tracks periodically and the songs featured will mainly be from 1958-65 as that's when most of the best stuff was released. Message me if you want any information about particular groups and I will do my best to help, although many artists released one or two singles before disappearing into obscurity so there's not a lot to know about them.
The 50th anniversary of Tamla Motown in January has focused minds again on just how great their 1960s output was. Meanwhile the lynchpin of their great rival Stax down in Memphis - Booker T - is out and about promoting a new album. This music never goes away, and audiences always move their feet to it. This life-affirming soulful wave of Black Dance Music came to define the best that pop can offer. Grown men and women still go dewy-eyed at the mere thought of those hits.
And so do we, so we’ll be playing the best in Tamla Motown, Stax Records, club soul, & girl group songs from the period, all off original vinyl 45s. Your wax spinners on June the 5th will be Smart Phil & Mickee.
Come down and celebrate the beat, in a fabulous bijou West London bar that’s a doddle to get to and from. Double Shots all round!
