Approximately 2,000 off-Broadway and regional theatre productions were examined during the 2001-2002 season. Women wrote just 16% of the plays being produced and only 17% had female directors. Women’s representation on Broadway is lower still. In 1999, women wrote 8% of plays and 1% of musicals on Broadway. (Source: The New York State Council on Arts)…
Clearly women are under-represented and met with limited opportunities for self-expression as writers, directors and theatre artists, even at the highest echelon of the theatre industry. The same issues exist in film and television. If this is what is happening in New York, just imagine just how under-represented women are elsewhere. TWTP is doing our part to ensure that the opportunity exists for women, who are clearly underserved, to have their voices heard!!!

A BRIEF HISTORY: The Women's Theatre Project is a company of professional female theatre artists dedicated to producing theatrical works exploring the female voice. TWTP was incorporated as a 501c3 not-for-profit organization in May 2002. The company was founded from a need for women's voices to be heard, a desire to break down the stereotypes of women propelled by the media, and to create more professional theatrical opportunities for women of all shapes, sizes, races, and ages.
Who I'd like to meet: Sixth Star Studios located at 505 NW 1st Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301. The location is conveniently located 1 block west of Andrews Avenue at NW 5th Street in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale.
