Zooming in on "the Goose is out" night (thegooseisout.com) May 23. For us its back to the roots, playing acoustic like we did, 1983, before we started performing at official rock and roll dives. Before we had a single out or anything. Up close and personal. Like in Tartan tv's gallery night Brixton or the street parties of south london, Reckless records San Francisco comes to mind too. Come to think of it, theres a few radio station sets we did like that.
This decade we spent a while unplugged in the crazy barn we worked in during late 2006 , when we all found ourselves in a room together again. What stands out for us was the Le Truskel gig early 2008 in Paris. We decided then, if the chance came to play unplugged as they call it now, we'd take it. If you've seen The Woodentops live with all the noise roaring
You'd enjoy the campfire mix . Its still pumping and in your face but you can hear the strings rattling more, vocals too. The venue itself though, is awesome. Part Ballroom part lounge. A deep hue of red, with velvet curtains, chandeliers and a curious selection of mirrors and old framed portraits. They tell us tickets are selling quickly. There's floor singers, dj's playing a mix of folk song and dub folksong (on Traktor) earlier on. Maybe we do 2 sets, not sure yet.
When its all over, we're recording new songs. Thats radical in our world. A new batch of Woodentops recordings. We will be playing (testing!) new songs amongst the ones we always like to play, at 'The goose is out'.
Hi Woodentops, Thanks for the add. I dug out 'Giant' the other day loaded it onto my mp3... its truely is a great album to train to. I remember it very fondly and still have it on vinyl along with others including 'straight 8...' which ranks as one of my all time favourites... oh for those halcyon days. Never realised Rolo was in the wild swans which incidentally was the catalist in rekindling the interest all over again!
Hi,i've got the "john peel sessions". I have enjoyed a lot the "different things". I mean the early rendition of "Everything breaks", the great solo by Simon on "Give it time" (that is class!), the great "Love train" and one of my favourites ever: ""Have you seen the lights?". Some fade-outs get me on my nerves because I consideer that on a record that's fine but on a live performance sounds like censure. The best: the voices man, it seems that in the early days everybody was very conscious that what important the vocal harmonies were, sadly they vanished as the evolution came. The worst: nothing in special, maybe the low speed in the 5 last songs ("Why" sounds to much de-celerated). What I missed: That song that still I don't have and I found very, very Woodie.I'm talking about "Everybody". I know that it has only two parts but I find it powerful and it doesn't sound dated. Thanks for that record, hi to everyone in the band. Greetings from BArcelona. Yours, Gimber Sanatorio
