“The Woods” is a fresh, bi-monthly concert series and art fair dedicated to the advancement of the arts in the surrounding community. Beginning Friday, November 21st a growing group of sponsors will be hosting a series of musical performances spotlighting emerging bands from across the metropolitan region. It is our intention to raise arts awareness in our community and encourage the creative pursuits of youth, while providing a safe, all-ages environment for their peers who come to see them.
“The Woods” is a strictly non-profit enterprise run by volunteers. Performances will be affordably priced, with at least four local bands, and will take place at the Arts Academy in the Woods, 32101 Caroline Street, near Utica and Masonic, in Fraser. Along with the Arts Academy, which has graciously provided both the venue and student artwork to be sold in the art fair, we have received additional generous support from local businesses. Huber and Breese, a mainstay in the local music scene, is providing professional lights and sound equipment for each event. The Detroit School of Rock, a revolutionary group intent on furthering passionate music lovers, and The Audio Café, a staple in the Metro Detroit music scene for almost 25 years, are providing studio time to be enjoyed by the band(s) that draw the largest audience. iVIDEOinc, having a team with over 40 years experience with clients including General Motors and REI, has agreed to provide professional video and sound recording for use in creating a promotional clip to be displayed on YouTube and the Arts Academy in the Woods website. Rocket Printing,
a local print house, is donating one-thousand flyers
and will be our source for t-shirts and ticket printing.

creative aspirations of the next generation.

We believe education involves more than what you learn from books. The new Arts Academy in the Woods can help nurture and develop your child's talents through Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual and Technical Arts. Our extensive arts program is combined with a solid academic curriculum, including math, science, English, and languages.
Students are not required to have career goals related to the arts; however, those who do may benefit from the academy's ties to the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, which deals with international cultural exchanges. Special guests from other countries will occasionally visit to teach and participate in classes and vice versa.
The Academy opened in August 2001, to students entering the 9th grade. The 2002-2003 year included 9th and 10th grade students. 11th grade was added in 2003-2004, and finally, a senior class was added in the 2004-2005 school year. Arts Academy in the Woods is chartered by the Macomb Intermediate School District's Board of Education, who oversees its operations, including finances and curriculum.
