Influences
The Extras's influences are many and varied - Queen, ELO, Radiohead, Muse, RATM, Chilis, Stone Roses, Debussy, the Quo...It doesn't mean they sound like any of them but they've been an inspiration
The Xtras first started out in 1995 when the original line up were all students at Moray House in Edinburgh. They quickly adopted a policy of "nae covers" and gained the respect of venues and other bands for this idealism. Highlights from these early years include headlining at The Venue in Edinburgh and having their music described thus by a rock chick in the now defunct Stones live venue, also in Edinburgh: "That's good music." An eleven track album was recorded in 1996-97.
After two heady years, jobs, families and bizarre hand injuries sort of got in the way. Three members got married, two had children and the other one went off to become an opera conductor in mainland Europe. The band sadly petered out. But now, after an 8 year sabbatical (minus the original drummer, Jake) Rich, Dan and Griff have got back together to record "that difficult second album". The new album, recorded at Edinburgh Recording Studio Windmill Sound in Newtongrange, Midlothian, is called A Doll's House. it's an eclectic mixture of driving rock, soaring vocals and delicate textures. A Doll's House was launched on Saturday 2nd September 2006 at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a great success, especially Gordon Dallas of talk107fm, Golda, Steph, Louise , the Canonmillbillies and Zoodoo.
