Park Ave. was formed in January 1996 by five friends. Although the band lasted only 2 and a half years, it received rave reviews for its honest indie-pop. The band still maintains a substantial fanbase. Albums still in print are available in the Team Love (part of Saddle Creek) online store.
Part of the band's charm was that none of the members knew how to play their respective instruments. Conor, age 15 at the time, who traditionally played guitar, and Clark, then 14, who played drums, decided to trade instuments for fun. Neely, Jenn, and Jamie were all in college and soon joined the band. Park Ave didn't play many shows, and when they were asked to, Conor usually tried to talk the promoters out of it, telling them they weren't good enough. After Jamie announced she was going to London to work in art, the band got together and recorded the album "When Jamie Went to London...We Broke Up." It was released on Urinine Records, which went bankrupt, but was recently re-released on Conor Oberst's label, Team Love. After the breakup of Park Ave, and when Jamie returned to Omaha, Jenn, Neely, and Jamie all went on to teach elementary and high schools, while Conor received national acclaim for his work as Bright Eyes. Clark's band, The Faint, also continues to record and perform. Jamie and Neely are now part of the band Tilly and the Wall.
