Françoise Madeleine Hardy was born on the 17th of January, 1944 in Paris. She is a French singer closely associated with the "Yé-yé" movement that swept across France in the early 1960s but she would outlast most of her competition. Her stunning looks not only led her into acting and modeling but to many admirers around the world (including this one). Bob Dylan even wrote a poem to her which found its way on the LP sleeve of "Another Side Of Bob Dylan." Two years later he finally got to meet her.
Françoise Hardy, after a few disappointing audtions, finally got her big break and signed her first record contract with Vogue records in November of 1961. In April 1962, after finishing school at the insistance of her family , she completed her first album for that label and scored her first hit with "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles"
Françoise Hardy continued to record through the 1960s and 1970s scoring a string of several hits and the chance to work with notables such as Serge Gainsbourg. In 1981, Hardy married boyfriend and sometime music partner Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son, (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In February of 1994 Francoise Hardy recorded "To The End" with the pop group Blur. It was a big hit for Blur and brought her a new legion of fans and further collaborations with popular artists such as the French pop group Air. In May 2000, she released the album Clair Obscur. Her son played the guitar and her husband sang the duet "Puisque Vous Partez En Voyage." Iggy Pop and Étienne Daho also participated. Hardy currently lives near Paris, while Dutronc lives in Monticello, Corsica and they are still a couple.
